Hey all. I'm new here, new to welding, and looking for my first outfit. I decided to go with the gas welding outfit for the ability to weld 4130 and aluminum, at a price point more amenable to me.Looking for everything except the cylinders. The new Victor (Performer Medium Duty) outfit I have my eye on is $215 new, so obviously looking a good price on used equipment. Would love to find a outfit including a Meco Midget Torch.Contact me here via PM, or email me (preferred) at john(dot)steensen(at)live(dot)com.
Reply:I'd contact Tbone here. He many have what you need. I got my smith setup from him and love it.
Reply:Shot him a PM, and haven't heard back. Looking to purchase ASAP if possible.
Reply:Sorry JR, I just got your PM. My work hours are such that I sometimes am at the computer at odd hours. I don't have the Meco torch you're looking for. I do have an older AW1 / AC309 set with some welding tips. The torch looks basically new, the cutting attachment is in decent used condition, and the welding tips are well-used but probably have life left in them. This torch and cutting attachment do not carry the Smith lifetime warranty - they were made in that time period when Smith wasn't offering it on them. The only regulators I have still for sale are a set of Victor SR450's which are in good working shape but have some orange paint overspray on the bodies (not the lenses). Some elbow grease and steel wool would probably take it right off, but they're ugly right now. All of this equipment is higher quality than the Victor set you're looking at, and so even though it's used, unfortunately it would cost more in total than the $215 you're thinking of spending.
Reply:Hey TB, wasn't complaining at all. Sounds intriguing. How much are you looking for them, and what else would I need (other than cylinders/consumables) to start welding?EDIT: Or we can take this to PM if you prefer. (Just saw your PM)Last edited by jrsteensen; 02-24-2012 at 11:58 AM.
