Good Day all,I have an Aklands AK 130 amp MIG without gas. Have .030 Flux core loaded in it and would like to weld up some 3/16 mild steel angle iron.I have never owned a MIG before and am a bit confused with understanding the settings. The machine is 110volt on a 20 amp dedicated circuit. Does a slower wire speed and a higher voltage setting give me the best penetration this machine is capable of?I tryed a couple of passes on some scrap steel, ground it clean then ran a pass on the serface. The first pass was with a moderate wire speed and medium voltage setting. This produced a mounded up bead. I then tryed increasing the wire speed and upping the voltage and seemed to get a flatter bead. From this I am to assume a better penetration also?Any advice is truly welcome.Johnatwork
Reply:Wire speed controls amp(heat) and more volts will make the bead flatter but you have the right balance between the 2. Experiment adjusting one setting at a time. I think I'd start with the wire speed about 3/4 and the volts the same and play with the volts. 3/16" will be near the upper range of that machine. There be a chart on the machine to help with settings. If not it's the same as a Millermatic 130.
