Its stupid. Why would anyone want to go through that? The rebel if you hook up the foot pedal you still have to hit a button on the torch, push the pedal down and lift the torch! Good thing i only bought this to mig with.Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
Reply:When I tried the Rebel out I opened the gas valve, touched the tungsten, pressed the pedal, lifted and away we go.

Reply:Lift arc...it's better than a scratch start, (at least in theory) if the machine actually does a good job of sensing the low open current voltage before changing to high voltage JUST milliseconds after it looses continuity when you lift off. Haven't tried the rebel however getting into that mode does seem a bit awkward, other manufacturers just have an on/off switch for lift arc.RyanMiller Multimatic 200 tig/spool gun/wireless remoteMillermatic 350P, Bernard/XR Python gunsMiller Dynasty 350, Coolmate 3.5 & wireless remoteCK WF1 TIG wire feederMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeOptrel e684Miller Digital EliteMiller Weld-Mask

Reply:It took me a little time to get accustomed to lift arc on my Rebel(without foot switch) I think if I had not had the shakes from 4 cups of coffee I could have shortened my learning curve by 50%.It's hard to weld when you can't see.
Reply:Not a pro weldor here .... not even close .... but I have had to use the lift start feature on my Syncrowave 210 a few times when it was not convenient to use the pedal. It seemed to work fine once I figured out how to program the machine for lift vs HF start. There's no foot pedal involved when I switch it to lift start.

Reply:Originally Posted by wnywelderI have always felt that the whole benefit to lift arc or scratch start is that you dont have to be tied down by the foot pedal. For that matter...lift or scratch is all the same to me. I've passed x-ray with both, and it's not that hard...just takes a little practice.
Reply:A torch switch would be super awesome sometimes, I agree. I used a miller maxstar a bit with a huge switch that was rather unwieldy, not a fan of it. One built into the torch might be nice though. Reply:I've passed multiple pressure pipe tig welding tests with scratch start. That's all that was available. For those of you who say you can't weld with scratch or lift start, that's just your inexperience talking. But, it is no excuse. Reply:Scratch tig is used every day in heavy industry. My uncle welded hi pressure pipes in nuclear power plants with scratch tig.

Reply:Lift is a step up compared to scratch. In industry and construction you work with what you get, if you can't get it done, they don't keep you around. It's as simple as that. You can spend all the money you have for a fancy home use tig welder however, a skilled operator doesn't need all that stuff.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
