Hi, can I mig weld stainless with my Miller 211 75/25? Or am I going to need a different setup and with a helium tank and different wire? It's a very small job so I'd hate to get this other stuff for one 3/4" weld. I'm welding a stainless shaft that'll be a permanent key...for a go cart. My nephews project...not sure if he's got all his facts straight but let's assume he does. Thanks for any help!
Reply:If I understand what you're asking, regular hard wire like ER70S-x and the gas you're describing should be fine for a non-critical component. Obviously the weld will rust.
Reply:The problem is that it's going to be expensive for a small weld. You'd have to buy a roll for just a small weld. Stainless is not cheap.
Reply:I doubt the shaft is stainless though. Probably a plated steel which you'll need to remove the plating to get a decent weld. easy enough.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Ok, cool...thx! Yes, ER70-S6 wire. |
