Millermatic 250 MP-- opinions?

I have a shot at a used Millermatic 250 MP.Would appreciate any thoughts on strengths/weaknesses, known issues, and what to look out for when inspecting it, and what a reasonable value might be.Thanks!Howard, Chicago

Reply:The Millermatic 250MP was way ahead of its time if you are asking for opinions - basically a Millermatic 250 with the Microprocessor in the front that handled an impressive array of programs. At the time it cost about the same as the standard MM250 but the additional capability was outstanding. If you used nothing else other than the dual schedule function, that feature cost half the price of the welder at the time if you bought it as an accessory on Miller's standard product line.      In a tough, low-tech industry, however, so many purchasers ultimately wanted the simpler - turn it to the right, hot - to the left, cold - don't confuse me with finesse that requires the removal of welding gloves to adjust thinking, most customers seemed to prefer to stay with the 'big hammer' concept. That being said, let me add two things: worst case, if the computer style boards ever fail, the machine can be converted to a standard MM250, and secondly, if you don't want it, I certainly do! weldersales
Reply:Hello welder sales,  Iam lookin for help with my mp 250,  I think its toast, I was told by my local miller shop, It was a big mistake to ever build them and when the board blows its  a grand to fix,....Its very intresting to hear you say it can be converted to the standard (big hammer)  250,  Please elaborate ,I was always sorry for thinkin I needed a programable welder,Not to mention you have to buy the special high priced replacement gun...  They were on sale....  Thanks  Eric
Reply:I love the MP250!!!! My welds looked immediately better!! After buying the MP250 I sold the other mig I had and bought a 2nd MP250. It sets itself better than I could ever do it!!
