I have the terminal strip type connections coming off my lincoln sg control module. How do I connect that to the 6 oin on my engine drive? Could I get a 6 pin male and splice the wires in? The cord i have is the K492-10. And I have a  ranger 250 gxt.Lincoln Ranger 250 GXTLN-25Lincoln Magnum SG and ModuleAirco HF BoxMiller 304 XMT CC/CVMiller 60 Series FeederMiller Syncrowave 250O/A SetupIt's a dog eat dog world and i'm wearing milkbone underwear
Reply:Simple answer is no. The 6 pin connector is only for a remote voltage / current control. The welder was designed for use with the LN 25 and LN 15 wire feeder. To use your spool gun you will need to figure out how to wire a 115 volt plug to the control box to supply power to the box. then you can operate the spoolgun as a hot wire feeder. If you want a contactor you will have to find a contactor in a box that you can power out of the control box. Post the code number on the control box. that way I can look it up and see what it takes to make it work. This welder does not have a contactor built in. If you look at the back of the plug you should see wire 75,76,77 and a ground wire. 75, 76 and 77 are always voltage and current control wires. you need 2 and 4 to turn the welder on and off.
Reply:So what your saying is that all I need to my sg module from my welder is just 115 volts and of course the electrode lead? I was reading the manual and it suggested this cable for engine drives http://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us...roduct=K691-10This one has the 115 volt plug but the amphenol plug is a 14 pin. But is the plug even necessary if all it does is control voltage/current?Also the contactor is not necessary i will just be careful.Lincoln Ranger 250 GXTLN-25Lincoln Magnum SG and ModuleAirco HF BoxMiller 304 XMT CC/CVMiller 60 Series FeederMiller Syncrowave 250O/A SetupIt's a dog eat dog world and i'm wearing milkbone underwear
Reply:The 14 pin plug has the contactor control. If the welder has the right matching 14 pin receptacle. It will have contactor, 115 volts, 42 volts and current / voltage control.Your control box does not have a voltage control knob. Only preflow gas timer and max speed controls.Get IM 398. down load it from Lincoln If you do not have it. I assume you have a magnum sg control box and gun.You have not posted either the K number or code number of the control box.If this is what you have. make sure the 115 volt power cord in connected to pins C&D. Also make sure the mode switch is to the left. This will keep any power from the other wires. Since you will be welding with a HOT wire. always lift the gun and break the arc as the trigger is released. This way you will not damage tips. If you release the trigger and do not lift the gun. The wire will burn to the tip every time. The K691-10 cable set has gas hose, control cable , weld cable and 115 volt cable wit plug. used on engine drives the have 115 volt receptacles and a remote plug that does not have 115 volts in it. If you don't like the hot weld wire you can adapt a contactor to the control box. When setting up the spool gun. start with the wire speed real fast, then slow it down to weld speed. This will save tips. Once set, should be good until you change plate size.Last edited by ccawgc; 03-13-2011 at 03:55 AM.
Reply:Thanks and no the control box only has post flow timer and wire feed control.Lincoln Ranger 250 GXTLN-25Lincoln Magnum SG and ModuleAirco HF BoxMiller 304 XMT CC/CVMiller 60 Series FeederMiller Syncrowave 250O/A SetupIt's a dog eat dog world and i'm wearing milkbone underwear
Reply:JD, without a contactor, the SG control module Post Flow will be of little value as it's intended to protect the molten weld puddle until it cools and solidifies after you let off the trigger.  As alumunim MIG is intended to be spray transfer, you'll be surprised how far that arc will hold on at the higher voltages of spray when you pull away.  Although you can weld with the spoolgun hot, if you're anything like me, you won't be pleased with the end result.  That is literally, the end of the bead by having to lift the gun to break the arc which is why I equipped my Bobcat 225G Plus with an internal contactor for use with my Spoolmatic 1 for aluminum MIG and HF-251D for TIG.I say all that to suggest giving serious consideration to adding a remote contactor in the mix if you're going to be doing any amount of welding with it.Just my $.02.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
