Guy posted up on another forum about selling a welder cheap due to not working great.  He said after taking it to a local welding supply the "duty cycle" needed to be replaced.  Any idea of what that would mean and it is a part that is much in the way of replacable.
Reply:A thermal cut out would be the only thing that comes to mind, but that is a strange description.
Reply:I think someone is after a fast buck. The duty cycle is the rating that the welder can be used at max. out put for a time period . 20% equals 2 mins on and 8 mins for cooling. Some of the small Lincoln welders do have a thermostat and  some don't.It only opens the trigger and keeps you from welding while the welder is cooling down. The most common problem with bad welds is wrong drive roll. or damaged miggun liner.wrong nozzle and to large of weld wire. Then comes a shorted or open weld diode.
Reply:Really not that interested in it but could possibly get it real cheap.  Says you can tack weld with it but more than that and it shuts off.Didn't know how you can replace an adjective such as duty cycle but I didn't know what specific part would control it to send it into the duty cycle.
Reply:This is an older welder at least 5 if not closer to 10.
Reply:Could be a nice welder for you. But before you buy it. find out how and what stops working. When it stops, does the fan still run, wire drive and ect. Does it trip the circuit breaker. If every thing works and just the wire stops feeding and starts again with every trigger pull. Could be just a bad liner. Liner is a easy cheap repair.
Reply:It will only create an arc for about 3-5 seconds, long enough to make a tack weld. I talked to some other people about it and they gave me some things to check, mainly electrical connections. Hopefully I will find time to check all them this weekend, I was hoping to work on it today but got caught up in a court case. I'll take $50 for it as is And the person I talked to was from Lincoln Welder support, he said the duty cycle was just a breaker that would self reset once cooled down, nothing to worry about there, he just said through heat cycles wires come loose pretty often
Reply:Just pause for a moment. Once it stops welding the wire sticks to the metal, simply break it off and tack again. It's almost like the wire speed is too fast and is making contact with the metal.
Reply:The Duty Cycle doesn't need to be replaced, just soak it in a bucket of steam for an hourEd Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Code number please. I would like to know the which model you are looking at.

Reply:I was thinking muffler bearings when he told me replacing duty cycle, but for $50 I am hoping I can snag up a decent deal on a welder.Does that not sound like a liner issue.
Reply:Wire sticking to the plate could be a contactor problem. wire burning to tip or sticking in the gun, is a liner or tip problem. drive roll slipping and damaging wire and in any combination.Need code number. The 135T uses a contactor any other 135 uses an electronic switch.I can think of at least 5 different Lincoln welders that use 135 in the model name. They are all quite different. weldpak, SP promig, powermig  handy core, handy mig,  weldmark,Just to name a few.
