Hey folks,I was curious if most of you (who don't use CAD software for everything) used a formal computerized cut sheet for all your cutting jobs or just hand wrote the dimensions and such. I started saving my cut sheets in excel a few months ago and i really like it. It takes just a bit longer at first but when i need to revisit that job, it's really convenient to know off hand exactly what i was working with. I can't seem to be able to upload an Excel spreadsheet so i screen shotted it to share.
Reply:Yes, we do similar...for both cuts and material usage (job costing stuff). But 80% of our work is repeats of previous custom stuff when the customer wears the old stuff out. In fact, I pulled out a cut sheet/construction documents from 1983 yesterday. The customer had changed ownership 3 times since then and about crapped himself that I would still have the old original specs on his equipment. Every time I start thinking it's time to chuck the old paper files because those projects are long dead, one crops up and I find the ancient hard-copies save my ***. Not worth digitizing the stuff but sure nice to have around (when I'm not tripping over the files). I did chuck the 1959-1976 files a couple of years back. It had been several years since anyone had needed them and about the next week after they hit the dumpster we got a call...Most of the new stuff is digital...easier to find and store but still has to be printed for the shop to use and document on. I suppose I could find a way to go "paperless" but I Kinda like having the old clipboards and papers to hold when doing jobs. |
