Leveling stand

I have not posted anything new in awhile. I made these to help keep me off the ground and make leveling and keeping things square easier.I seem to be making a lot of squat racks and long items (bigger than my weld table). The garage floor is sloped and shimming everything is a pain. It telescopes from about 20 to 40". The bolts are 5/8 on the feet and the center bolt at the top is 3/4 with a jam nut to lock in place. Reply:I started using pipe jacks years ago, i dont know how fab guys can survive without them.

Reply:Made myself 4 two years ago....I'ma suggest that you fab up several different styles of upper rests that simply drop over the threaded shaft using a short piece pipe welded to bottom of work rests. You will discover you need V shaped rests, flat rests, roller rests and maybe even pointed pin rests to make them thangs really handy.

Reply:Here is one each of the pairs I made a few years ago.....I didn't need to support anything really heavy so theses served ok....Plus made them from scrap.My mistake then was to weld those angles to top of threaded shafts, vice making all sortsa different rests welded to short pipe that would simply drop over threaded shafts.

Reply:She's not at the gate yet, so I poked my nose back in here.I'm sure you're kidding, or at least hope so.K'kins actually pretty much runs the house, and I run the outside.  And she gives advice on the outside stuff, which I listen to, and very often adhere to her advice.  She's the perfect sounding board.  I couldn't speak of her, or other women in this way.  Just not in my soul to do so.  I sometimes overstep boundaries, but I step back in a hurry.True story...............On Tuesday, K'kins was at the Dollar General, and there was this guy in line.  Some doooood she's known most of her life.  It's a small town.He's a geezer (more so than me), and he's single.Guy was at the counter spouting off, much in the same way.  K'kins, being a pretty strong minded woman, let him know what she thought.  Something to the effect that the old fart wouldn't be alone in his old age if he had a different attitude.She's made me see the light too.  We've had the "discussion" about the good ol' boy BS over the years.  If you go along with the crowd (these are my words), and trash women, it's the same as trashing your own woman.  It's like a disease sorta.  And you have to remember that your Mother was a woman, and I'd hope nobody would talk about their Mother in this fashion.There's a point when the kidding is counterproductive.  It ceases to be kidding, and borders on hate-speak, so to speak.I used to think it was funny, but now I think it's probably the reason you see so many sexual assaults these days.  Lack of respect thing.I cherish that old gal.  She's saved me from a counterproductive life, and added a host of new dimensions to an otherwise dreary lifestyle.  So, I gotta stand up for her by standing up for all women.Probably making it too personal, but it's become a hot button issue for me these days.  Take it with a grain of salt.This sorta sums it up.  (came across it while doing some stuff in another forum)We have conversations at the dinner table, I let her know how I feel about abuse etc....................  She says that that's all fine, and good, but you go along with your buddies when it comes to trash talk etc.  Talk is cheap (her words), show me by acting like you're talking.  I guess this is my first step."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Seriously Gents,I got the greatest respect for folks and their family relationships. Women have redeeming qualities that outweigh their shortfalls. I'm thinking a guy could mount a few of these to an about 60 degree V shaped rest atop their stands and be able to rotate pipe, plus slide it left to right really easy without re positioning stands...Most pipe welding stands have two wheels that allow you to rotate pipe, but you can't easily slide it left or right.
Reply:The reason I asked what school is because I generate a lot of scrap. 4" channel 20" long 1 1/4x11/4 x1/4 angle 20" long and some other stuff. I scrap a lot because it just builds up in the shop. I would love to donate it to a school shop. Let me know if the school has a interest.
