My first tig.

So I pulled the trigger on an green tig. (I know I know) however while I was waiting for it to come in I went to the lws to get some tungsten and filler rod and I met a guy talking about a miller econotig that he got that he didn't want. So I said I would buy it from him. I handed him a business card and he said oh you tattoo I would trade ya straight up. I said hell yea. I picked up the blue machine last night and gotta  plug wired in the garage tonight. Fired it up and start running my first ever tig beads. This is my 6th attempt. The torch I have has a slider gas valve and the cable on he torch is old and stiff and the torch slid in my hand and shut the gas off last minute. Plus I didn't add enough filler rod and it cratered a little bit. Overall I am pretty happy with this rig not knowing much about tig yet. I have done a lot of reading here and a lot of YouTube videos. I think being a tattoo artist helps with my hand control and being a drummer helps with my multi limb coordination.Now my green machine will be here Wednesday and I think I am gonna send it back. Reply:You might be able to resell that green machine.I think you have an advantage, having a brand new unused machine on this side of the ocean.I see it all the time on ebay, people buy in bulk from china, then resell it for a few $ more. Reply:I'm not trying to be negative, but while you wait for the green machine to arrive, you might want to compare the models.  The duty cycle may be significant, for instance.   The minimum amps may also make a difference if you want to work on some really thin stuff.A new tehcnology machine may be able to do tricks that a 10 year old model can not.Dan----------------------------Measure twice.  Weld once.  Grind to size.MIG:  Lincoln SP100 TIG/STICK:  AHP Alphatig 200X
Reply:Econotig only goes down to 30 amps on AC and 20 on DC pretty sure
Reply:Most of the stuff I do right now is motorcycle exhaust 16ga wall and body work stuff 16ga as well. It worked well last night on some exhaust tubing. I don't see myself going smaller than 18 gauge or so. I done a lot of research before pulling the trigger on the green one. The econotig fell into my lap so to speak and with the pedal I can get pretty low amp arcs. I really can't see myself needing to go any lower than 20 amp. The only thing I like about the green one is it is dual voltage and has pulse. Which I was messing with last night with the foot pedal. I don't know what to do now. I think I will keep the blue and sell the green one.Using Tapatalk
