our older weldpak 100 issue - feed motor is fine - when we try to weld there is a very loud noise that is best descried as a groaning - the machine will weld for a few seconds then trip the breaker - I looked for loose wires etc and tightened the nuts on the alum platesany ideas - other then junking it since they are about disposables anywaythanksdoug
Reply:There is a good chance you have a shorted diode or capacitor. You can check the diodes with a multi meter with a diode test mode. The easy way to test the diodes is to unplug the large plug from the pcb, disconnect the transformer lead on the right edge of the heat sink and one of the leads to the large capacitor. The heatsinks are the AC  connections and the wires to the capacitor are the DC buss. The lincoln part number is on the diode. Two of the diodes have a part number that ends in R.The R is a reverse polarity diode. The bridge has two of each type.  Unless you have a newer welder, that has a diode assembly with press in diodes. That assembly is a single part. While you have one wire off the cap. put the ohm meter across the diode and see if it charges up.
