Hi All,Totally newbie to welding, never welded anything other than soldering copper I am looking to buy a Mig Welder for does tweaks to my BBQ smokers and I want to make a BBQ grill out of a 55 gallon barrel.Found a deal locally for a Lincoln SP-135 Plus with a cart and bottle for $275.Not sure how old it is, looks to be in good condition.is this a good deal? What things in particular should I look at and check out when I see it?is this a good unit to start with? Figure I will be welding 13 gauge or thinner most of the time. Thanks all.Pete
Reply:If it works, you can't go wrong. Since you have no experience, ask the present owner to demo it for you with solid wire and shielding gas. If it sound like it is burning wire smoothly, and the bead doesn't look too bad and has no visible porosity, take it home and play with it.
Reply:I have the "T" model which is very similar. They are fine for backyard projects, assuming they are in working condition. The "Plus" model has a finer voltage gradation which is a nice feature to have.City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined. Reply:I am going to take a look and have the owner do some welds for me. What things should I take a close look at and really check out on the welder before I buy?TIA
