New here and New to welding. My question is I was practicing some beads for 10 minutes the other day and afterwards I was seeing spots and had a slight headache. I was using an older lincoln electric auto dimming helmet. I am now looking for a new one and can't decide between these two. Lincoln electric dark fireMiller classic vs Any help would be greatly appreciated
Reply:try a search,  many threads here on which hood to buy,  features of many different modelsTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:You need to look at the Striker Stealth CSV by HTP also. Very good helmet for the money with better clarity. It's in the price range you are looking at.ESAB Rebels 215 and 235, ESAB HELIARC 281i, ESAB ET 301i, Hypertherm 85 and 45XP, Thermal Arc 185, TD 60i, HTP PRO PULSE 300
Reply:The question is why you were you seeing spots and have a headache .Did the helmet get dark? Some helments have on off switch. Did you have it in weld mode shade 9-13 or grind mode, some use batteries ,may be bad.I would check these first
Reply:Like stated above ^^ I'd check to see if that particular helmet had a on/off switch.  Even if you were using a #9 Lense you still shouldnt see spots,  a headache after hours under the hood maybe...Ive owned multiple Miller Elite series helmets,  theyve been great and I cant complain but after dropping a few and batteries, lense replacements...  I went back to a FibreMetal Sugar Scoop.  Simplicity is key and I use a #10 lense.  Also on the Auto-Darkening helmets they tend to have a Green Arc (From our view)  with my FibreMetal it gives off a crisp orange Arc and I find it easier on my eyes.  The darker the lense the more definition of the weld puddle you see,  the lighter the lense the more work piece you see and your surroundings. Some Blue , Some Red & Some GreyProverbs 16:2-3.2 "All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. 3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."
Reply:There is no on off switch and it was darkening. To me it almost seemed like it wasn't darkening fast enough.
Reply:Do you have a sensitivity switch on the helmet if so you can try adjusting it
Reply:No switchs anywhere.
Reply:You can never go wrong with a flip front fibremetal and a 2x4 shade 10 lense. Just my opinion. 1973 Lincoln SA-2002007 Lincoln 300d Miller Syncrowave 210Miller XMT 304Mathey Dearman Torch Beveling Machines
Reply:Get you a pipeliner with a good glass shade 10 (maybe a 12 for flux core/ DS) ... And then a clear face sheild for grinding. I can almost guarantee you more money has been made welding looking through a pipeliner helmet than any other helmets combined. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reply:I picked up a helmet today. It's a Lincoln electric. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. Here are the specs.

Reply:Last helmet I bought was a Selstrom 4x5 window.I have another helmet with a gold lens.My favorite is a Lincoln that came with my Lincoln 225 welder in 1964.Needs a new head gear. The Selstrom cost 30 bucks.A welder I know says the auto helmets dont switch fast enough.Ever wonder why older welders dont care for the auto helment.
Reply:Fiber-metal "pipeliner" with gold lense.   My auto darkening helmets sit on the shelf in plastic bags with a coating of dust on top.  The "pipeliner" old school type is just so comfortable.  Plus, a simple gold lens like Hobart, is awesome and super affordable.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
