Just saw  this on CL and wondered what it is. What is the thing on top of the welder?Seems like  good deal on the welder, I have the same but mine came with 30 ft leads and a large can of 7018.http://norfolk.craigslist.org/tls/3575565498.htmlTom

Reply:GumneckIt also called a Tobin Arc.  Tobin is an ancient name in electricialwelding history.  It appears to be laying bottom-side up.On the top-side in the fore of the handle is a thumb-slide that tunesthe carbon rod/arc distance.  The slide controls and maintains the arc as the rods expire.This a great deal, the carbon-arc itself probably exceeds $225.00.Opus
