I was cleaning out the tombstone and these wires were simply capped off. I am sure they won't stop me from welding because they are labeled 'Optional' on the print, but now I am curious what they do. These condensers are shown on the schematic across leads H1 and H3, I assume for high power input or perhaps for 3 phase, I am unsure. Anybody know what these are, and what they can do if installed? Any input is appreciated! Thanks,Danny.City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined. Reply:I don't have a schematic for it but,If they are for power factor capacitors. They cause the welder to draw more power at idle and less while welding.Sometimes if you are having troubles with throwing breakers, the PF capacitors will cure it.
Reply:Oh really? Ok...they will just stay capped off for now in any case. I got it cleaned out and shot a few drops of light oil on the moving parts. I just need to find something to burn a few rods on next chance I get to see how it runs. New used toys (I mean tools) are so much fun at first! ...until it gets to be like work again anyway...Thanks for the reply!City of L.A. The kits for the older units are obsolete from Lincoln, but I've read of some folks substituting motor run caps for them. Just an FYI.

Reply:hi, good job... I will keep an eye on this forum. I hope many experts can join these forum... Really informative.. The topic Power Factorcapacitors is really excellent. I wonder if I can make one like this.... |
