Does anybody have any knowledge about this filler wire and its properties and its intended purpose. I found a old surplus of different fillers from Eutectic, and im just trying to cross referance them to other brands. Im having trouble finding any information available on this one. Its definately a stainless hybrid and i love everything about it, wets out nice and moves awesome. Thats about all i could say. I have a bundle of it so just wanna see if i can put it to use. Tig-tectic A is all it says on it. Thanks guys.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Mike, perhaps a variation of the Castolin Eutectic Int'l filler from NZ?  www.castolin.com/en-US/Tig-Rod-Alloys .  Do the rods run a la ER-312 or SuperMissileWeld alloys?  Didn't see any "Tectic A" online at the above site, but you said the filler was 10+ yrs old.  Check?  BTW, bitch'n smooth and dialed in welds you have there bro "Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:Mike, I could be wrong in my research pretty sure tigtectic A is similar to 312 stainless.  Here is some info http://weldingweb.com/archive/index.php/t-111081.html
Reply:Thank you Kai and thank you for your research bud. Ima keep looking bro! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Don't know if it is the same, but says it has increase amounts of molybdenem as an alloy and recommended for 316 or 316L for cryo applications.  http://www.castolin.com/en-US/product/tigtectic-amolCould be Eutectic upgraded tigtectic A. A phone call to thier tech could give an answer. http://www.castolin.com/contact
Reply:Mike,This is from a 2007 Eutectic catalog:BRIGHT FINISHED FOR CONTAMINATION-FREE WELDS. BOTH RODSARE HIGH CHROMIUM-NICKEL ALLOYS WITH ELEMENTENHANCEMENTS FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCEGeneral Properties• TigTectic A composition is suitable for welding AISI grades 321 & 347 when carbideprecipitation is to be avoided. When optimally applied weld deposits are smooth and freefrom out-gassing and porosity.Sounds like a 347 rod to me. Eutectic tends to be cagey about the exact composition of their filler metals but between the catalog and the MSDS's on their site you can sleuth it out pretty well.I'd be curious to see what other Eutectic goodies you have in your stash. JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps

Reply:Hi! TigTectic is the american version of our castotig range i think. People have bottomed this one out for you already, in the UK we would be calling this a 680S tig rod, details as follows:TIG 680 is particularly suitable for the welding of difficult to weld steels. Two characteristics are decisive: The very high mechanical strength of the joint. The two-phase structure of the deposit. The ferritic-austenitic type deposit with a delta ferrite phase distribution of approximately 70% ensures excellent resistance to cracking even for applications on base metals with high sulphur, phosphorous and lead contents. The high chrome content (29%) gives it excellent oxidation resistance up to service temperatures of 1150ºC; however, service temperatures between 500 & 800 ºC are not recommended.Mechanical Properties:(On test pieces prepared at 20ºC without annealingtreatment)Minimum TypicalTensile Strength 650 N/mm² 730 N/mm²Yield strength 450 N/mm² 520 N/mm²Elongation 15% 25%Hardness 225 HV.30Shielding Gas:Recommended gas: 100% argonApplications:TIG 680 is especially recommended for the joining of highly stressed work pieces, joints of dissimilar metals, high strength steels which on account of their hardening treatment are difficult to weld, high-chromium steels, tool steels.TIG 680 is also suitable for buttering layers before deposition of an anti-wear coating. Because of its increased elongation ands its high resistance to cracking the buttering layer can neutralise the stresses caused by the differences in the elongation between the base metal and the coating. TIG 680 has demonstrated very good performance characteristics for the coating of cold forming tools.Preparation:The surfaces of the joint preparation and the adjoining arrears have to be clean, i.e. no oxidation, grease, paint, etc.Preheating:Preheating depends on the type and dimensions of the work-piece and on the carbon equivalent of the base metal. Preheating of 200-400ºC is recommended for large section work pieces with high carbon content.Welding:Polarity = (-) negative polarityAngle between torch and work piece for a flat joint: 70-80º. Angle between rod & work piece 15-30º. When welding the root pass, check the wetting by the molten pool and that the penetration is geometrically perfect. The inter-pass temperature of the joint must not exceed 150ºC. Use a stainless steel wire brush for subsequent cleaning.Welding Positions:PA, PB, PC, PE, PF, PD according to ISO 6946Recommended welding current:Welding CurrentDC1.6mm 0-1502.4mm 110-180Machining: The TIG deposit can be machined withstandard cutting tools & can also be cut by the plasma cutting process.Rod Diameter: 1.6mm 2.4mm---------------------------------------------------Hopefully this helps you out, its a popular rod (more popular in electrode form if i'm honest). I always say that its so good it would weld wood! If you need anymore help or the data sheet just give me a shout and i'll email it over!
Reply:Mike, this is from a pamphlet from 1983:  Tig-tectic A, Stainless steel processing equipment, brewery, dairy and food processing parts.  For type 347,321,304,308 stainless.  Stabilized to minimize carbide precipitation.  90,000 psi, DC straight polarity.   Hope this helps.  Best regards Bob
