How's everyone doing!?Get to the meat and potatoes, I have a 302D trailblazer and I primarily use it for stick as well as the generator function to power my plasma, tools and misc items. I know pretty bad. But I've been think of getting a HF box and a pedal for it. Read a lot of guys use a hf 251d with a 14 pin pedal. Call me rookie if you want, but look for the best guidemce possible.Open to other options Thanks!
Reply:You don't need an HF box unless you are doing AC alum. You can always add one later if you feel the need, and get started for less right now. You can just do scratch start or lift start tig with the machine as is just fine. Pedal is a big help, but isn't required. This thread covers all the basic parts you would need to get started.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...-Welder-PeopleWhat torch you opt for would depend on how many amps you need to run based on what you want to weld. I prefer the Ck torches that have higher duty cycles than most brands the same size. HTP sells them and sells a reasonably priced flow meter as well. On pedals I'd look at the SSC pedals myself. A nice unit and a lot less than a Miller one.http://www.ssccontrols.com/homepage-...ngcontrols.htm.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I have a couple of the older Trailblazers with AC and I have the HF box for it. It TIG welds aluminum really well. I have to use short leads. It won't work well with the 300' of cable on my rig.The worst thing I can think of happening is if everything I ever welded instantly became UNWELDED
Reply:I happen to have a miller TIG pedal for sale at the moment for $140, PM me if interested. Then all you need is a TIG torch
Reply:Well, he does gain HF start for DC which I at least find to be very useful in comparison to not having it, and I see TB302D's have AC, so he gains the capability to weld aluminum. Here are a bunch of pictures of my setup:Hopefully that makes the connections pretty clear. You'll notice that on my ground connection on the HF251D, I have two lugs hanging out, one is just a short line that plugs in to the Trailblazer, the other is a connector to connect my ground lead to. Reply:My point was more that he didn't need to have the HF box to start out with, ( assuming doping DC tig) if he couldn't locate one at a reasonable price. While Hf start on my Syncrowave is nice, it's not hard for me to do lift start or scratch start using an XMT 304, which is what he'd have available as is with his TB. Give a choice, I'd opt for a peddle over an HF box if it came down to one or the other to start out with. Even the peddle isn't an absolute requirement to start out with. Plenty of guys doing basic scratch start tig off basic engine drives in the field with out one. Those accessories are nice, but not "required". He can start with the basics and add to his rig as funds allow or jobs require. AC alum is the only real place where I'd say both are required.Nice the way you have your HF box rigged. I haven't gotten to the point where I'd really given that set up much thought as I haven't located a TB priced the way I want quite yet. AC portable tig would be one of the main reasons why I'd want an older TB..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Having lift start isn't bad once you get used to it i run a pedal and have a wireless remote box for what DC Tig i do Wintermute i do like the setup ...we run similar setups To bad the airpak is not offered with the DieselBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me What would SATAN do ?? Reply:Miller recommends their AC shop TIG for aluminum on the new trailblazer due to no AC. You can get a torch with a manual gas valve and a lug to attach lead to for DC TIG on steel. Pedal or HF are not needed although they might make it easier.
