I need some new leads for my home shop stick welder.  I'm going with #2 AWG size cable because of the length of cable I want to run off the machine.   I'm just not sure about this brand "Royal Excelene" and all I need is just an opinion on this particular brand name.    If you know, can you please tell me if it's good or bad?  What I don't want,  is to buy a brand only to find out after that what I bought was like a "Harbor Freight" cable equivalent.  Here's Royal Excelene's advertised 2 AWG cable spec that I'm inquiring about with you folks:"VERY HIGH FLEXIBILITY CABLE THAT IS MADE IN THE USA.  TEMPERATURE RATING IS 105C-50C.   600V CONDUCTOR STRANDING IS 644 STRANDS OF 30 GAUGE COPPER.  WELDING CABLE DOES HAVE A TAPE SEPARATOR COVER THAT LAYS BETWEEN THE JACKET AND THE COPPER TO PREVENT THE COPPER FROM STICKING TO THE JACKET DUE TO HEAT.  NOMINAL O.D  IS 0.49  AND NOMINAL WALL THICKNESS IS 0.06. DC Resistance per Conductor @ 20OC 0.167 Ohms/1M'  May be used in accordance with National Electric Code Article 630 Electric Welders."Many thanks for your opinions on this!
Reply:I have some 1/0 Excelene cables I bought from my LWS.  They've served me well over the last 4-5 years.  Maybe not quite as flexible in the cold as the best stuff on the market, but still very useable in the cold.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector

Reply:Great news guys.  Thank you!  I'm ordering some off the internet.  Just wanted to know if it was good or bad.
Reply:If they ever advertise it, the more strands you have the more flexible the cable will be.  All cable has some sort of neoprene jacket which is as good as you need.  I have never seen other materials but rubber things are often made with Buna rubber which does not tolerate sunlight as well as neoprene.  There are one or two other rubbers which work well but they need to have UV resistance.
Reply:The cheapest place I've found is Electron Beam Technology, for welding lead. They list their per foot prices on fakebook, and have free shipping on orders over $250.00. I just ordered/received 200' of 2/0 and some other shorter lengths of various sizes. This stuff is top quality."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:I know this is an old thread but for the review of Royal/Excellene welding cable,I really like it,I changed out my ground lead on my mig welder a few years ago, went from a very stiff 6awg 8 foot length from the factory, took a foot just to get out the front of the welder,so probably only had 6.5 foot ground lead to a 4 awg 10 foot ground. It stays flexible even in cold weather also.Might not have the most strands going compared to the best but it works well for me.Maxus Pro-125 MigChicago Electric 90 amp DC flux-coreLincoln Electric AC 225 tombstoneO/A torchM/O mini-torch10 acres of flatland15 acres of holler
Reply:I've owned thousands of feet of it over the years, mostly on machinery that came thru the shop I sold. A pretty good majority of it was Excelene. My LWS carries it too, good lead for the money.I got a sample of super flexible lead from Trystar in Minnesota when I stopped by their booth at Fabtech last year. It's really, really flexible and made right here in the USA. They even source the copper they make the cable out of from a local Minnesota mine.I plan on getting some made up special for my load bank. They'll even put your business name on it. My sample came in a super nice display box, which leads me to believe they got their shlt together when I comes to making lead.Last edited by 7A749; 04-16-2016 at 10:33 AM.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:I asked the same question over a year ago when I got my Dynasty.  This is what I went with.  No complaints.  As soft and flexible as anything I have found.http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-FT-2-AWG.../191508703820?My name's not Jim....

Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749When you buy the cable from them, I believe they do it for free. My little 2' piece has the name of my business on it (Quality Welding & Machine LLC) There may be a minimum order tho. I mainly want some 4/0 coming from my load bank to Tweco disconnects, then have a set of extension leads about 12' long with the heavy copper mechanical post crimp lugs on them. One lead red, one black. I have 2/0 now but will prolly go 4/0 just for the extra volume of the lead. It's really nice stuff and entirely USA made which attracted me to it to begin with. They got every color under the sun too. I have to call them and see what they say.
