And neither do I.Customer brought in a bearing flange journal that the bearing had spun on and wiped out the bearing surface area..They insist that it is NOT cast iron..I beg to differ.Anyway there is no room for a sleeve on this so I gotta weld up the area and try to re-machine it...Sleeve would have way too thin of a wall thickness so..............Seeing we don't know for sure what it is made of..it is one piece...309 is what I am using for the build up..Another point of this post is "Do what it takes to get COMFORTABLE!!!!"Using the positioner and my small home made rollers I had to find a way to get close to the weld area without my arms "Flapping in the breezzzzzzze....."By the way this thing weighs in at 108 pounds...Study the pics....Next!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:AS we continue...Seems to weld OK so we'll see how hard it gets to machine...If it gets real hard and starts breaking my carbides I will have to make and center plugs for both ends and then its into the big cylindrical grinder with it...Oh yeah the last pic...I got tired of picking up the ground clamp off the floor because grabbing that nut assy that comes standard on the positioner just don't cut it so a piece of copper took care of that problem....One way or another I will win. That's the name of the game anyway right?More to come tomorrow.I get all the fun jobs........zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Turn that coin over. you have a 1966 Roosevelt dime. It could be worth anywhere from .10c to $55http://cointrackers.com/coins/139/1966-roosevelt-dime/http://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/160...sevelt/1966-P/If anything it might be worth $1-2 lol. Sorry got off topic, but saw the coin and year. My brain works in mysterious ways Last edited by AndrewDavenport89; 04-14-2015 at 03:57 PM.

Reply:Yea, I like coins. I use to have about 10 separate collections of dimes, nickels, quarters, pennies. All from the periods they still used actual valuable metal in them. Lost the coin collections several years ago. Unfortunate circumstances, but I will get a new one going again someday. Cool coin and nice welds!!! Hope the machining isn't as bad as you think. Cool project going into the unknown.
Reply:Dayum, that's an olllllld dimeNice beads Zap........that's why you get all the fun jobs!
Reply:No, zaps not getting rid of The Dime It looks like some kind of cast something or another from here, but then again, I'm not the expert here The stock I made the collars out of for that snow plow looked like steel, but machined a lot more like cast and welded like it too.I used stainless on it too. Curtailed the cracking anyways. Looks like funExpert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:Well it could be a hardened steel. Tempered, Quenched, Annealed.... Bunch of different metallurgical combinations that could have been put in play when that piece was made. The place I work could tell you what it is. I work at a actual foundry where they pour steel to make castings etc. You guys know exactly what goes into the process. Could be a Hardness treated piece.
Reply:Wish i had a suggestion, hard to say without being there and thinking about it. Great job so far tho.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:I can imagine that even at what Monarch charged them to fix it, it was a lot less than fabricating or purchasing a new one.Glad it turned out goodExpert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948

Reply:Originally Posted by Denis GOK.  I've just wondered how it's set up.  I'm assuming that you TIGed it, but maybe you used MIG.  I've never done it (I'm more of a hobbyist welder), but I know that it's tricky to keep welding if you're TIG-ing while going to grab a new filler rod.
