Hey all!I am in the process of connecting my HiFreq TIG box to my flat top IdealArc 250. The manual states: "The best way to be sure the Hi-Freq is on the same phase is to have the input cord, properly fused, to the 115 volt fan motor leads inside the welder."Since the input cord for the HiFreq box is terminated with a 115 volt three prong end, can I add internally to the Idealarc 250 a 115 volt receptacle, with the service side on the back panel and just plug in the input cord of the HiFreq to the receptacle as long as power is provided to the receptacle by the fan leads? My train of thought is coming from the fact that there is a 115 volt receptacle on the back of my Powermig 215 and I presume it is feed by the fan leads.ChadMy JeepLincoln Power Mig 215 / Magnum 300 Mig Gun / SG Spool Gun / Dual TankLincoln X-TRACTOR 1GCMiller Digital Elite
Reply:In looking at the wiring schematics for my Idealarc 250-250 the fan appears to be 240 volts but I can't be certain without opening mine up and looking inside of it.  I always wondered how you were supposed to match the phase on the welder when the welder is across two different phases that are 180 degrees out of phase with each other.  Which phase are you supposed to be trying to match?  Phase A or Phase B? If in fact the fan circuit is 240 volts the best thing to do is to add a step down transformer from the 240V to 120V and ground one leg of the 120V to make it a neutral.Jim
Reply:The fan motor is across the welder output plus a boost coil. Should be 115 volts.Measure it or look at the data plate on the fan motor.make sure you install the filter kits Or the HF will kill the weld diodes. Also AC tig reduces the duty cycle limit is half on this machine.Read machine's owner's manual and check the diagram there.
