Torch for oxy/acetylene

A recent jewelry acetylene torch purchase has me thinking about getting a oxygen bottle and a different torch to do some cutting as well.  I'm new at this and I do not yet have a cutting/welding torch.  Since my gauges are Smith I contacted Smith and their office made a recommendation.  They are expensive and I may well go with it, but I see many alternatives out there and I'm wondering if all torch handles are the same as far as connections and hose compatibility and relative quality.  If the connections are universal, besides Smith brand what other brands would serve well?  Not my full time occupation, but I want something relable, has parts, quickly serviced if required.  I DO NOT want cheap.  Inexpensive is OK but not cheap if you know what I mean.  Also what tips are essential or are they a matter of preference?  Lastly, any written reference that I ought to read to get a bit more knowledgable?
Reply:Just stay with a reputable, American made brand...Smith, Victor, Harris, ESAB (Purox, Oxweld, etc.). I don't think it makes sense to by a "victor style" or a "harris style" torch that is actually made in China. Any of the name brands are good.
