Need suggestions....8' of 6" stainless pipe

I picked up around 8' of 6" stainless steel pipe, with the idea of using it as a vent pipe for a wood stove in my shop build. Decided I won't be using the wood stove, so I need project suggestions for the pipe. I remember seeing some interesting camp stoves built using pieces of pipe, but seems my Google-fu is weak this evening. Any other interesting project ideas or suggestions for 8' of 6" stainless pipe?

Reply:STOP!As MikeGyver suggested, that section of pipe is worth a ton of money, perhaps $200-$400 per foot to the right person.  That's not a common grade of 'stainless' steel pipe.  The markings indicate that it's a Nickel alloy.  see belowhttp://www.megamex.com/Alloy-20.htmlWith some sleuthing on your part, you might find a shop that would buy that drop from you.  It would be useful to a filler metal manufacturer's product development group, if they need the right base metal to develop a new filler metal.  A fab shop that deals in exotic alloys might be able to use it for coupons to qualify their welders.  I doubt anyone would use it in an actual fabrication, because they need the supplier material test records to validate that it's properly made and has the right chemical composition.Were I in your shoes, I'd call any contacts I know in my local area that fab stainless steel and exotics to see if they're interested in buying it.  Or check into listing it on Ebay.  IF you can find a buyer you'll have enough money to buy several stoves with.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector

Reply:My suggestion is to sell that pipe and buy some good WELDED stove pipe. Not the snap together crap.
Reply:Maybe make some camp lanterns out out of it, based on the pipeliner BBQ design? Either way, there aren't too many project I can think of for pipe that size. Everything's either too big or too small.
Reply:Huh, interesting...I had no idea it would be worth that much.  I know it wasn't exactly cheap at the scrap yard when I picked it up, I had to pay around 70 cents per pound.  It, with a couple other pieces, were around 82 pounds, so I have close to $60 in the stuff.  Hmmm, looks like I need to do some more research.
Reply:Meant to ask, but how would I verify exactly what grade it is?

Reply:Once the history of the pipe is gone, no heat certificate, etc, the pipe loses its value. Whatever it could be used for it likely wont because of its unknown past. Could be new, could be used, could be radioactive, you just don't know, so its only legitimate future use is by a hobby guy like you. So use it to build a rocket stove or whatever you desire and have some fun with it.
Reply:Forgot about this thread, thought I would update a little.  Decided to simply hang on to the pipe, and try and make at least one stove from it.  What type TIG filler would I need to use, and will straight Argon be fine as a shielding gas?
