The 427 Ford intake I built and had posted along time ago..The pics have dissapeared..Yup they are gone..The post is still there but no pics anymore..So here they are one more time..Enjoy!Next!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:More..Front.. Inside..Ports..NO burn thru..If you never saw it before..Started out as flat stock on the floor..I made the head flanges and the carb mounts..Louie (car owner sig) did 60% of the machining..I did the welding and the rest..NO prints...NO nothing to go by..And yes it works.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:The old attached files must have got purged in the move. How long ago were they posted?John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Hey Zap,Man, those are some superb welds.... That's why I always call TIG the "Artform" of the welding processes. To have those deleted should result in someone getting a taste of "caning"!!! You gotta frame those pics.....  DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. ShopMobile UnitFinally retired*Moderator*"A man's word is his honor...without honor there is nothing.""Words are like bullets.... Reply:No thermostat for that intake, huh?  It does appear to be welded in, or is that so it doesn't leak?

Reply:looks supurb  how long did it take, not having anything to work from?  any twisting or warping?

Reply:Zap why did you weave those welds instead of doing multipass? It seems that a weave typically puts more heat into the material. --Gol'
Reply:No particular reason other than it looks better than multipal stringers..There was 1 stringer underneeth though.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Any pics of the runners before machining?

Reply:I got ya...  I was just curious.. as to how well the runners looked and the transitions.   Looks like a big money piece.  You do good work, no matter what some of these guys say! LOL...   I would like to be able to make pieces like that!!!

Reply:Zap- Would you mind explaining how you do the weave pattern at the base of the runner where it meets the head flange, and why you use it here and not in some of the other areas. Thanks Attached Images

Reply:Originally Posted by zapsterNo not at all..There is a "stringer" underneeth each weave..The process is all in the wrist..You start at the edge of the stringer and just add a dip then move up or down and add another while moving forward..I did it like that because its pretty and it leaves enough material so you can get inside to smoothen out the runners without grinding all the way thru.....zap!
Reply:Originally Posted by exothermSo let me see if I understand this. There is single straight bead laid down first where the runner meets the flange right? Then the weave is built up on the top of that giving the weld greater width and depth? If you were to slice through this perpendicular and get a side view would it look sort of like a triangle, with the "stringer" at the bottom and the weave beads at the top? Thanks again for answering the boring newbie questions.
Reply:Crude design....but I bet it polishes up nice  Going for a vintage 1950's look?

Reply:Very nice, to me it's a work of art.Regards to all.Working on cars and bikes is my hobby, learning to weld the pieces together is my quest.
Reply:I can weld like that.

Reply:Thank you Zapster, you are an artist, and your work is art. Thanks for the inspiration. Now , can anyone do that with stick welding?'Thanks,Raf

Reply:Must get extremely breezy in your shop to need that much weight to hold the paper down.Too bad it will probably never be used on an engine again. Bet it helped make plenty of power.
