I tried to weld with A/C on my new 250 Bobcat & didn't work!My striker had about as much spark to it. I checked the fuses & plug & they were OK. DC seems to weld OK. Does anyone have any ideas on what else to look for before I take it in to the repair shop?                                                 Thanks, John C.
Reply:Well, I pulled the top shroud off the machine to check for loose or non-connected wires & the 1st thing that caught my eye were the words, "Made in Mexico". I don't know how long Miller has been using "Made in Mexico" parts & really don't care, but my opinion of Miller dropped a few notches at that moment.I called the 1-800-4AMILLER number & the repair rep. told me that the switch probably wasn't making a connection & that I should take it to a repair facility. With only 45 Hrs. on this new machine I am really disappointed with the quality of Miller. I know it is probably just a faulty part, but I normally don't pay for faulty parts, as I don't expect people to pay me for faulty parts, craftsmanship, or things of that nature.Something to keep in mind, if at all possible "Try BEFORE you BUY"I wonder if I'll get compensated for down time? HA! HA!
Reply:But John C, didn't you say it was new?  Surely you have a warranty?  Jeez, situtations like this is where we really miss Rock.Have you tried posting this on the Hobart or Miller Boards?  One of their "experts" should respond to it.
Reply:But Cutter, yes it is new. The point was that it was probably broke when I uncrated the thing. I just think that when a machine like that is bought, it ought to work. The welding supply I picked it up from could have made sure everything worked, if nothing else for the sake of good customer service.
Reply:LOL.  I agree John, & that's why old Rock always suggested we try one out before we bought it and take it home with you if it suited you - not another one like it in a box but the one you welded with.  And especially when it gets into this price range. The reason I mentioned the warranty is because you said you weren't used to paying for faulty parts, and again I agree. And the reason I suggested posting it on Weld Talk is I have several times seen the Miller reps step in over there & ship a new part to folks like you before you could even think about a repair shop.  I would still try posting it there under the products section & see what happens, if you haven't already.I am also surprised you haven't had any responses here from some guys with Bobcat experience & that's one reason I replied to your posts - to keep the thread showing up on the "view new posts" page.  There may be a simple fix for this that someone else has already  worked through.Meanwhile, I am sure sympathetic with your hard luck.  Those "made in Mexico" and "made in China" parts are exactly why we are all over here on this board.
Reply:Cutter,My wife recently had to re-do the computer due to getting a bug or worm or something. I don't remember my password & the Weld Talk forum has not e-mailed me back yet. I don't know what the problem with them are, but everyone else has seemed to e-mail me back that I have requested in a timely manner.I guess this just ain't been my best week." THINK POSITIVE "        JohnP.S.Thanks for your replies.
Reply:just wondering did you try and work the switch back and forth a few times.....sometimes they get a coating on them and don't make good contact....don't know much about the bobcats just that i think they want to much for one
Reply:I haven't had problems with my Bobcat as yet, and really ain't lookin forward to havin any.In my opinion, the dealer you got that machine from was a piss poor dealer.  I have yet to pick up a new machine that my dealer hasn't completely tested.  If it's still in the damn box it ain't ready for delivery, too many things get forgot on the assembly line, and other things break loose during shipping.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:I have gotten 2 bobcats in the box, both were fine never gave me any trouible. And most dealers arnt going to let u try it out unless u pay frist! As the one i ask said it then become's a used machine if u dont buy it!!
Reply:I've worked the switch back & forth. I might go try to work it back & fith. It's probably just a dud part, one that didn't get caught by the Q.C. people. In the past, the machines that I bought were serviced out & ready to go.I'll blame myself for not checking everything out as soon as I got it fired up. I could have taken it back & demanded one that worked.Live & learn

Reply:I think I'll go ahead & e-mail Miller with the problem & see how they respond. I've had this thing for about 2 months, so a new/different unit may be out. I'll see what they say. If I can't get the swap, I will take the welder to a service center with an on-site tech. I did that before to have some warr. work done on one of those purple preditor welders.I wonder if I can get a loaner or some compensation for the downtime?
Reply:This is the Miller expert I remember from the "old" days at Weld Talk.  I hope you can get your password back so you can post there because they like to be seen stepping up to the plate and smoothing over the problems.  Kevin has always been [email protected]

Reply:Ya and i guess u want them to fill the f-ing tank up with gas, and give u a f-ing life time supply of welding rods to? Dont see what all the bitching about so the damn thing got alittle problem he didnt even check with the dealer frist so what the f?what the hell u want anyhow?
Reply:All right boys, you better settle down!  If you make me come up there, I'm bringing the BELT!!!
Reply:Well cutter its like this i dont live up there anymore and some peeps keep reminding me why i came back to the south,so if ya want to bring the belt u'll have to come over not up
Reply:7018,I called the f------- dealer, they asked me what kind of rod I was trying to run. Whats up with that & what does it matter. The machine is broke.Yes, I have had the tank full of gas before when I bought a new machine, from another dealer though. No, I don't need a lifetime supply of rods from them.I believe in customer service sounds like you dont give a crap about it. You have a bad attitude or have sniffed to many fumes in order to sound off like that.
Reply:john c wasnt talking to u was talking to mir F he sounded off frist! sometimes he just pisses me off !!!! wasnt intended for u!!!!!!!!!!and as far as a bad att. i dont really have one unless someone pulls my chain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
