Looking at buying a portable Gas Driven - Air Compressor. Can anyone recommend any brands or models. What size do you use.I will be running grinders, impact guns etc. Though only 1 tool at a time.
Reply:I run just a regular old 5.5 horse Honda motor twin tank. It runs stuff ok, really falls on its face when Arcairing. I want a 12 horse 30 gallon Quincy for the next one.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I have a dewalt with an 12? gallon tank I bought after my ingersoll rand twin tank got stolen. The dewalt is 150 psi and makes a difference with and impact. The IR was either 125 psi or 135. The ir had the red honda motor the dewalt has the black. I Think one is an ex the other is a gx. I liked The red better. It would start in 5 degree weather, the black is very cold natured, below 50 and you need to break out the juice. So...most psi, biggest tank, and motor brand is what I would look for. I don't know how I existed without one(kind of like a plasma cutter). You will use it a lot more than you think. You can usually find a good used one on CL for 300 to 500 depending on condition.
Reply:I use this Westward 4B220 Compressor Air 5.5 HP and its awesome I will say that strongly recommend it
Reply:I run a 8 horse honda on a twin tank. Without going outside, I don't remember he brand. I run 3/4 & 1 in impact guns. I do have to wait for it to catch up, but the tanks are small, and it comes back quick. I use it to air arc with a k3000, and it does ok, could be better, but it does it. I would buy another. I have a small truck, and no room for a big compressor. However if money were no issue, I would love to try one of the larger Miller Air Pac machines Bruce DeLaetHeavy Equipment Mechanic and Welder1948 SA-200 short hood1949 LincWelder 1801963 SA-200 red faceMiller S-32-P
Reply:Grinders and sanders eat a lot of air. How big are the impact wrenches? Occasional use or everyday?"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Thank you for all the replies and input. Will be everyday use - up to 1" Impact guns.
Reply:I had a 30gal with a 10hp Kohler to run a 1" tire gun for trucks, and that is what I would recommend. It will handle that gun and a plasma or Arcair torch, without a problem. Mine was an older one, now I think they come in 11hp or 13hp. I also like Champion or Quincy, both top of the line equipment. Here is an online place you can shop/compare, http://www.aircompressorsdirect.com Hope this helps, and please let us know what you go with."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:not gas powered but i have a rol air 5520 that was built in 1972 and still runs like a champ. I got it from my dad when he sold his masonry company he used it to build quite a few houses over the years. they cost a bit more cause they are still built in the usa . i think they have gas ones powered by honda engines
Reply:I have a American IMC intercooled and after cooled continuous run/ self unloading compressor on a 150 gallon horizontal skid mounted receiver with an electric start Onan Performer 16 opposed twin. Nice for a for small truck portable shop. It's 30 cfm continuous at 175 PSI. I've had it 4 years, sitting in the shop and it needs a home if anyone is interested.I bought it with the intent of removing the gas motor and installing a 7.5 horse electric motor but got a deal on a Quincy QP with a vertical receiver so the American IMC is collecting dust. No reasonable offer refused. All stupid offers rejected. |
