Don't you hate plastic/rubber knobs on machinery? Make new ones!

Reply:I know what you mean, I do hate plastic handles.The first thing I did when I got my lathe was make new handles to replace the plastic ones.  Then when I made a radius tool I made the handle for it , and new knobs for the mill/drill  I just made this pillar tool and thought about using those spline type lever handles to lock the clamps, but I HATE PLASTIC , so I made the knobs instead. One of the things that I love about having tools is the ability to make things like these that look and function better than what you started with.
Reply:I made some ball handles for my mag drill. I used the compound to approximate a ball then a angle grinder with flap disc. Reply:The first thing I made when I got my mini lathe was a shifter knob for my mustang and it had a very small button on it for the nitrous and the nitrous purge. I learned a lot on a mini lathe. When you get a bigger one you will really enjoy a lathe even more. Reply:Nice looking knobs. I'd probably would of went longer and rounder on the knob personally. Just because I've spent hours at the drill press drilling with my hands hurting when I got done. McMaster has a pretty good selection of good quality knobs.http://www.mcmaster.com/#machine-com...-knobs/=m15om5  Currently I've got the 1 7/8" comfort grip knobs on my drill press and love them. They're soft and have a good rubber like gripping surface that's not slick like the hard plastic.
