HiHere is an electrode sharpener I built today.  Cheap and easy.HF trim router and 2" 3M roloc sanding tool mounted on a 1/4" plate.A small right angle bracked with some small hole to pass the electrodes through.Position at the 12 and 6 0'clock position so the grinding is parallel to the electrode.have funtom Attached Images
Reply:Nifty!I was expecting to see a green disc, not that color is relevant with disc abrasive. How'd you decide whether to grind on the "push" or "pull" side of the wheel? Thanks for posting it.Good Luck
Reply:That was a disc I had and may change to a different material like Norzon. You can use either or both push or pull dirrection just drill the electrode holes lower. As long as the grind marks are parallel to the electrode.  I made another grinder using a diamond wheel (see attached picture) using the pull dirrection but it wanted to pull the electrode from my fingers. And ate the electrode up fast.  The Diamonet was too aggressive and that one was scraped.Tom Attached Images
Reply:looks good. I sent ya a pm jester. Wouldn't mind coming by to check it out and get some ideas for myself if ya got some free time
Reply:I was considering building something similar, but with a dremel & there little diamond wheel which is not too aggressive really, the dremel diamond wheel works well & I use it all the time for tungstens, but a holder like you did is something I've wanted to do for a while now miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:I made a electrode grinder with a threaded hole and use torch collets as guides.

Reply:Most sanding discs are made with aluminum oxide.  If you're welding aluminum, aluminum oxide is a contaminant you don't want on your tungstens.  I like your setup, just make sure the wheels don't have Al2O3 in them.Lincoln AC225 & MigPak 140, Lincoln Magnum SpoolGun, Miller Spectrum 375-X Plasma, Syncrowave 200 TIG, Millermatic 252 MIG, Miller Digital Elite, General 7x12" horiz/vert bandsaw, 3' box/pan brake, 20 ton press, milling machine, 12x28 lathe, etc.

Reply:Would these wheels be acceptable for welding with MS/SS only? (No aluminum welding)
