I Finally Got a Pipe Bender

I got this oldie, but goodie Blackhawk USA made 1/2" to 2" bender still in the original box for a whole $100......it leaks a little but the seal kit is still available and only $15Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:That one is probably $3000 out the door, very nice unit though. I always liked the Greenlee 777 but not the price attached to it. We had a Greenlee 555 at a shop I worked in as a kid and it would do 2" Sched 40 stainless like it was a piece of licorice.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I have to ask with a bender like the enerpac that looks like a "squisher" type bender, same as a harbor freight bender, is there really any difference in the quality of the bend from that bender vs. The harbor freight bender?

Reply:I have a greenlee bender like the one shown above, bought it real reasonably several years ago.   One of those things i bought because i knew it was cheep at the time but damn, i had on idea they were going for $800+ used.I bought it because it was cheep at the time, i have yet to use it.   might have to look at parting with it since its in almost new condition.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:Instead of an angle finder, I have a shelf of pieces of sample pipe that I premarked every inch then bent.  I use them for accurate layouts.  I measure from the top pf the frame to the top of the die for common bends and keep a notebook on that. a magnetic angle gauge (or even a Iphone) helps get it in the ball park, but doesn't account for springback, I just use it for a rough first try then do the die measurement for the rest. With the samples, it's easy to make double bends with accurate inside measurements without math. You don't have to figure in the shrinkage and stretching etc.
