Can I use a cylinder with a dip tube for pure helium?  I have a 125 CF cylinder that was retested earlier this year.  It passed the hydro-test and was stamped  1-13+*  They put in a new CGA 580 valve and a dip tube.  I would like to have a cylinder of helium for occasional Tigging heavier aluminum but my LWS said it would be better to have the dip tube removed.  How important is this since it will be filled with pure helium? I know that helium will rise and the dip tube will take it from the bottom of the cylinder but with pure helium it really shouldn't matter, should it?  Is there something about all this that I'm not seeing?  Any help would be appreciated.  ThanksTBMiller Dynasty 200DXMillerMatic 211ASMillerMatic 180Miller Thunderbolt 225 AC/DCLincoln Hi-Freq Tig Box

Reply:Thanks rlitmanI didn't think so either.  But they had me wondering. Makes sense now. TBMiller Dynasty 200DXMillerMatic 211ASMillerMatic 180Miller Thunderbolt 225 AC/DCLincoln Hi-Freq Tig Box
Reply:Dip tubes are usually used when you want to pump the gas in liquid phase. Because it draws from the bottom, the pressure of the gas in the head space will push the liquid out. This will decompress and turn into gas somewhere between dip tube and regulator. Could this cause the valve to freeze up?
Reply:What does it matter, if there is NO LIQUID in the cylinder?
