Forgot to turn on the cooler....

I have to say that HTP/CK torch is tough as nails. I must have welded for 30 minutes before the torch started burning....Oh well. I was teaching my 10 year old to TIG braze for her school project. Afterwards she asked me to show her some aluminum welding. I got three good beads out of it before failure. Good thing I have tax return money.  Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:actually I usually have plugged into the outlet on the front of the syncrowave so it comes on automatically when I powered up the welder. There is actually no switch on the cooler...its either plugged in and running, or not plugged in/not running. But the last time I welded, I was doing a bunch of stick and didn't want the added noise/breeze from the cooler, so I unplugged it. I won't be doing that anymore. I haven't disassembled it yet to diagnose it, but there was a lot of smoke coming out of cup and it was beginning to vibrate (presumably the water cooking off). I was welding 1/4 inch aluminum at the time to boot....Live and learnMiller Multimatic 255

Reply:Its all good Joe..she's daddy's girl ;-)Actually she was quite bummed that this meant the end of welding for the day. I promised her we would break out the MIG tomorrow. But she was REALLY grooving on the TIG...her new favorite activity.Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:Ck makes a 'fuse' protecting a water cooled torch from such an event. It saved the company I was working for thousands in just under a year. Leak, failure, and brain farts are all covered.Constant Current Weldor.

Reply:I always remembered to plug it in, I just often forgot to turn it on.Now, I leave the switch on so it comes on when I plug it in.Haven't burned a lead since.
