Local bar owner saw my latest railing pictures and wanted two windows covered in a similar style (to get rid of some "jail look" bars). The railing thread: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ics&highlight=She always liked a door cover I did years ago before she bought the place. All TIG welding done with the 1963 Airco Sliding feet for all four corners to ease installation. My typical fancy plan to work from Carefully hand bent.I'll load some "in progress stuff" too.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 05-02-2015 at 10:58 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:How I line up my stand height on my un-level, messed up floor - string line it.I lay different size bolts in to block the blade up just high enough to slide the first piece to the right length. Then set the stop block for repeated cutting.More pics...Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 05-02-2015 at 10:24 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Measure and set up one hole, set stops and drill all of them.I use a clamp to keep them from climbing the bit when the bit gets all the way through.Tack some guides to the table for the basic shape and tack together, also tack two scrolls in place to help keep square.Layout and tack the flat pieces.Wrap them around and zipper up with the Airco later.Weld up the feet and sand blast for paint.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 05-02-2015 at 10:32 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Sand blast and paint - thanks again for the tips DynaSteve (Man that Airco is sexy! )That's it - simple and won't stop a sledgehammer - but they would probably smash the front door anyway Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Great looking grates! How did you bend the flats? I don't know if you've ever done it, but I would get a measurement from the blade to that ledge just under the bolt and use that for measuring from. It would eliminate the need for the bolt on jobs like this. A little math is easier than blocking in my book. On my ellis it's 8" from the blade to the table edge so all cuts are calculated from 8". 4" is 4" back from the edge, 12" is 4" past the table. To be exact it's 8" plus 1/16" on the right and minus 1/16" on the left, but I throw away all the 1/16ths on most jobs. Reply:I really don't know the significance between ornamental iron work and random hottie pillow fights, but I think it could make for high viewer ratings. Perhaps for the pilot episode a strip club upgrade, with maybe a few minutes of stage and pole construction and the rest actual on the job testing.Originally Posted by M J DI really don't know the significance between ornamental iron work and random hottie pillow fights, but I think it could make for high viewer ratings.
