Has anyone ever seen a mag drill that looked like this unit? It has a machined aluminum body and a pneumatic drive. It was owned by a supplier of a former employer, but I'd love to get one for my current employer.
Reply:Never seen a pneumatic magnet, how does it work. Or is the magnet one that has a mechanical switch on and off. LOL
Reply:I've got a home made version similar to that. Don't have a clue who made or makes them.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:Some major cool factor there mstyer!I don't know the maker but it's probably meant to be used wherever explosion proof equipment is required. Chemical plants, refineries etc. It appears that all surfaces are non sparking and has a permanent magnet... Not cheap!Good luckMattLast edited by Matt_Maguire; 04-09-2013 at 02:14 PM.
Reply:I like that, just need a big a$$ compressor to run it.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:This is the one I have like it. Obviously home made but who ever made did spend a good amount of time on it. I got it off ebay 10 years ago or so for very little. I can't say that I've used it much. For a long time I didn't really have any cutters for it. Now that I have cutters I also have a small mag drill that works well and is much lighter and easier to use. This one weighs at least as much as my big Milwaukee which I don't like using because of the weight. I did use it a while back to do some 1 13/16" holes in some 2"x6"x3/8" wall tubing frames that I was modifying. That's bigger than my little drill is rated for so I used this one. I'm not impressed with the magnet on mine at all. It may of been great when new but now it's rather weak compared to either my Milwaukee or my Jancy mag drills. I used a clamp to keep it on the tube that I was drilling. Reply:Have a look here:http://www.mactechonsite.com/product...s/#prettyPhoto[rel-1020689662]/2/A company called Mactech has something exactly the same (same colors and everything,n just different mag). It sort of sounds like they make it/sell it. The website isn't real clear. Contacting them would likely give you the answer.Last edited by scooby074; 04-09-2013 at 09:01 PM.

Reply:that thing probably costs more than the GDP of some country's. Reply:Just the components to build it with are several thousand dollars. Reply:That's the one, Scooby! Thank you!!!!
Reply:Here is a similar, compressed air driven vacuum drill press- its not a "mag" drill, because there is no electromagnet- vacuum holds it down.Great for drilling things like stainless steel, or aluminum, where a magnet wouldnt work. And not that expensive, either.http://www.magneticdrilldirect.com/v...ing-system.htmthey work underwater, too- since there is no electricity, no worries about shocks. Just an air hose.

Reply:Thanks for the link scooby074! Those dudes build some seriously cool machines. Irish did you look at the line bore page? I like the rigid tool holder in photo two. http://www.mactechonsite.com/products/line-boring/
Reply:I agree. Good link. I looked at all there pics. I noticed the tool holder as well. Very innovative stuff there.
