I was looking at buying a fume extractor but some are way out of my budget; I figured i can fab something up and was wondering if anyone had ever made there own fume extractor and what filters should be used?Learning the ropes....
Reply:Why not think of exhausting to the outside for fumes only.Klutch 220si mig , stick, and dc tigHobart 140 AHP ALPHA 200X 2016Lotos LTP5000DSmith O/P
Reply:A blower from a hot air furnace will work, just check the fan for paint build up if you use for painting.
Reply:We built a downdraft bench a couple of years ago, can buy them commercially these days, the idea is the fumes etc are at bench top, so we draw the air down through the bench rather than drawing from the bench up past the operators face for overhead extraction.Worked well enough, these days we use articulated arms attached to extraction to move the extraction to the exact area we want it. Motor can be a lot smaller and quieter with this sort of settup
Reply:Ag Class I learned to Stick Weld in had a suction fan/hose on an articulated arm. Worked in a place where the back of the table had a suction system on it. Always thought if I worked in an enclosed area of my Shop, I would just use an old kitchen Exhaust Fan and vent it outside. Place I work at now only has air filtration cleaners to clean the ambient air. Most of the guys have breathers under their helmets now.
