My Ranger 8 will not idle up when welding but will when you use a grinder or  something in the 110 outlets. I have been using it on high idle and now when i am welding it will do ok for a sec then after welding about 3 inches or less sometimes it will bogg down. It kinda seems like it is getting flooded out or something. May not be what it is just kind of what it seems like. iIt will run fine when not welding on high idle. I have noticed the other day when standing by it there is a strong gas smell but is not leaking anywhere.  If anybody has any solutions please help. I have a couple jobs this weekend and really need it.Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies

Reply:Mmmm.  Interesting for sure.Considering the same current sensor on the control board is used for the auxiliary power and the weld sensing and the idler control is acting the way you've described, I'd look for an open in the weld output sensing circuit (wires #254 and 254A).As for the bogging, could be a carburetor problem and could be a short in the weld output circuit such as at the weld output studs. All just a guess with what you've described and not being able to witness it in person.Got a unit Code #?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:ok might be stupid but what is the unit code #??  I am new to the portable welder and have never had one. The ones i have used always got fixed by somebody else but that was with company money.Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
Reply:It has not idled up before and i thought i fixed the problem, but then it came back after a few uses.  I read on anouther forum to take the plate off where the leads attach and i think it was a green wire running from the positive is the one that tells it to idle up and it gets corroded and that causes it not to idle up but will when using the aux.  When i done this it was all clean so i cleaned it some more anyways and put it all back together and it worked a couple times now does it again.Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
Reply:That would be wire #254A if I've got the correct wiring schematic (the unit code number would tell).  Now check the other end of the weld sensing circuit for the control board which is wire #254 and attaches to the polarity switch at the same terminal the heavy cable coming from the electrode output stud that wire #254 connects to you cleaned before. Also check for good connections close to the control board in the same cicuits 254 and 254A.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:where can i find the wiring schematic for my machine so i can tell when i get to the shop again and how do i get the unit code number?Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
Reply:I have the wiring diagrams now and see the wires you said i will check them out when i get back to the shop. It will prob be friday before i can check it out. Still not sure about the unit code number and how to get it.Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
Reply:Code number, look on the data plate next to the serial number. might also be stamped in the frame and on the stator housing. follow wire 254 up to the polarity switch and check where it is soldered on. Heat it up and resolder it. They are known to come loose there. You also could have a float or needle valve problem is the carburetor.either one will cause the engine to flood out.
Reply:Thanks yall for the help i really appreciate it. I will try what you have said and get back to ya. If anybody else knows any common problems please post them. Any help would be really appreciated.Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
Reply:Well i got the auto idled to work. Not sure what i done but i followed both 254 wires and unlpugged them and plugged them back up and tried it and it worked. It was running a little rough but not sure if it still messes up when welding. I didnt get to weld with it cause i ended up having to take my fience to the ER. Guess i will try it all out next week after i change the spark plugs, air filter, and the oil.  What kind of oil do yall run in yours?Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
Reply:I like to run the synthetic in the small air cooled units, it seems to take the heat better and they don't hold all that much oil so the cost isn't all that bad. See what the manufacturer call for viscosity in the average heat of the area you are working. Also you may want to open a fuel line and take a fuel sample. Water in the gas will give these things fits under a load. Also check your fuel filter and if the tank has a screen at the fuel pick up. They sometimes run fine but when loaded the fuel is restricted just enough to cause bogging. If you thinks it flooding and you don't see any gas, check to see if the fuel may be dumping into the crancase somehow. levels will be higher than normal and you may smell fuel in the oil. I'm sorry , I assumed you have a carburator, don't know if you have fuel injection or not, some of the Kohlers went to FI around the time of this unit. still may be some of the above. Good luck.Last edited by kolot; 10-17-2011 at 12:28 PM."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:It has the Onan engine with a carb on it.  I put all new fuel lines and a new fuel filter on it about a month ago cause the lines were starting to crack.Equipment:Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln Power Mig 255Miller Diversion 165Hypertherm Powermax 45Victor Pro Series Torch setTons of other shop supplies
