Did a silly stupid last Friday while painting our family room. I made a misstep on a step stool and hit the concrete floor hard. Broke the ball right off the top of my humerus (upper arm bone) and exploded the shaft in my right arm. Surgery is either Monday or Tuesday. The 3D CT scan images are rather interesting to look at to try to imagine how the displaced puzzle pieces fit together. So, no welding (or almost anything else my right arm does) for three months or more according to the docs. At least I'll be able to watch my daughter weld and make things. Be careful out there, folks. Sometimes the silliest things can really lay us up for a while.(hopefully I am making sense here. It is kind of hard to write with all the pain pills in me)Victor Oxy weld/cut Setup Meco Midget Torch outfitEverlast 2016 250EX & Power Cool W300Lincoln Power mig 210MP w/amptrol and Spool GunEverlast Powerarc 200 Hypertherm Powermax 45Bandsaw, Lathe, grinders, press, Bridgeport, etc.
Reply:Sorry to hear about your mishap. Best of luck in getting it put back together for a quick recovery. Pain pills come in handy when you need them.

Reply:Ouch, hate to hear that. A friend of mine stepped backwards off a step ladder and slipped and while catching himself, broke his wrist. You never imagine just a foot or two off the ground could do so much damage, but it sure can. Hoping for a speedy recovery.
Reply:3 months! - You are just going to have to learn to use the other hand..... for welding of course

Reply:Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. Like so much, I always took mobility for granted. Definitely one way to learn humility when you need two people to help just to change a shirt. The simplest tasks can seem like mountains. I can't imagine how bad it was for our ancestors when there was nothing that could be done at all for their injuries.Victor Oxy weld/cut Setup Meco Midget Torch outfitEverlast 2016 250EX & Power Cool W300Lincoln Power mig 210MP w/amptrol and Spool GunEverlast Powerarc 200 Hypertherm Powermax 45Bandsaw, Lathe, grinders, press, Bridgeport, etc.

Reply:Well, we are human. We ain't perfect. We make mistakes. Trying to make things better, we go about life amongst embarrassments, cuts, bruises, fractures and all mater of contusions. Often times we fail, but every once in a while something true and beautiful may be uncovered. Sorry to read of your injury, Housedad - glad to learn your daughter will help you put things back on track. Get well soon, and get yourself back into the creative process.

Reply:Thanks again for all the thoughts, everyone. The surgery went well and the Doc was able to save my joint. It was looking 50/50 about if it would need a artificial joint. So, it seems like I'll be back to fabricating again around the end of September.I will be staying off step stools for a long time!Victor Oxy weld/cut Setup Meco Midget Torch outfitEverlast 2016 250EX & Power Cool W300Lincoln Power mig 210MP w/amptrol and Spool GunEverlast Powerarc 200 Hypertherm Powermax 45Bandsaw, Lathe, grinders, press, Bridgeport, etc.

Reply:OUCH! I've had my share of broken bones so I feel for you. Wouldn't it be cool if the doctors could just LASER WELD our bones back together or glue them back into position so they heal true and correct. My vote would be for welding them because it's much quicker ... Here's to a speedy recovery.Last edited by N2 Welding; 06-11-2016 at 01:20 PM.Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo.
