Hey everyoneI purchased a size Q / 80cf bottle of Argon gas from everyone's favorite gas supplier. There are no stampings on the neck ring, it is smooth. I was told I own it when I paid $300 for it (true?). The same supplier wants $100 just to refill the gas. I've called around and the only company which will fill and give me the same bottle back says it can't have another suppliers name on the shoulder label. I have a few shoulder labels sitting around. What would you guys do? Not looking to get into trouble to save a few dollars...Thanks!

Reply:I always just swap. I don't care what the neck ring says."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:All the personally owned bottles around here have a P on them. All the welding suppliers just exchange the empty for a full one. Attached ImagesDon’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:where do you live.   it is common practice in my neighborhood for them to give you a piece of paper/waiver that you sign, which states you are the own the bottle outright.     they keep the paper, and fill or swap out your bottle.   and thats the formal extreme method, anything more is hostile buisness on the customer,  find someone else to deal w/.    my place i just drop anything off thats current, no questions askedLast edited by 123weld; 06-12-2016 at 05:31 PM.
Reply:100 bucks to fill that thing is a ripoff. Find a new supplier and just swap. Reply:Location ?  I can exchange my owner PLAIN NECK tank with another plain neck tank on the spot. I do not have to leave it there and return days later for it. The no name on neck is suppose to be a real true owner tank. I would not trade mine for a name on neck tank. At $100, you gotta search for a new supplier.
Reply:In my area all of the LWS's recognize a 160 cu. ft. cylinder as customer owned. I bought my two argon 160's from Airgas more than 25 years ago and I used to exchange them there. They now charge $75 for a 160 exchange so I switched to a smaller local LWS that has terrific service and charges only $52 for an exchange. If you own the bottle, you own it and you should have no trouble unless it's an odd size that isn't ordinarily recognized as customer owned. Some of the 160's are marked "cusomer owned" on the upper ring and some are not.All that said, $100 to refill or exchange an 80 cu. ft. cylinder is highway robbery. Remember 80 u. ft. at say 15 SCFH gives you only 6 hours of welding time.Last edited by gnm109; 06-12-2016 at 06:57 PM.Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set

Reply:I own my small 55 argon bottle. When it's empty, I exchange it for a full one at my gas supplier. Reply:Thanks for the replies. I'm in Illinois for those curious.
Reply:Holy crap you got ripped on the price for the tank and every time you get it filled. I can buy (2) 125ft tanks for that price and fill up almost (3) 336ft bottles for $100.
