Been searching the forums and learning and hate to ask, but obviously I value your opinions! Plan on using for light farm use. Primarily a fence project first.Looking at a 1958 or 1959 SA200. Pretty rusty but cranked right up after diagnosing bad run switch. Clean inside fuel tank. DC grinder output works. Welds fine on 1/8 6011 dcep. Am going to need work on idle looks like. Probably a hose leaking near thermostat housing on top of engine. Starter sounds good. 2 wire alternator? 30 something on oil pressure. No doors on welder. Comes on a tandem axle welding trailer with oxy/acetylene holders that pivot out for easy loading. Hose holder and electrode holders. Dire need of blasting/brushing/painting. Also has a welding table? built on and a decent vise that works freely. Wish I could take pic but camera in other location today. Any help with what you guys might spend on something like this will help my final decision greatly. Thanks in advance! Also code # 3554. A-393490 . M-8803 faceplate.Last edited by Red Peppers; 11-20-2011 at 03:12 PM.Reason: add dtls.
Reply:If the price is right, go for is sounds like a good set up.Take good care of it and keep it out of the weather and it won't lose much in value.people are always looking for these welders. If it turns out to be too much welder and you want a smaller one, you can sell or trade.
Reply:I know w/o pics it is difficult to say, but what would be a range I would expect to pay for the setup?
Reply:Well, I thought the price was right for a running, welding unit so I got it. I may take post before and after pics if I decide to restore it. I was on a job today and a guy was welding with a sa200 in the 9xx-xxx serial # range. I was looking at it and asking about his and he said if I ever want to sell mine to him let him know. They own several of them for backups, etc. when their others are down. May be one of the few things I ever at least come out even on!Thanks for the reply ccawgc.
Reply:I know some rig welders with 4 of them sitting in wait. IF one gives them problems they will pull it off the truck and slam a new one on. Then go through them at their leisure. I think a good running welding redface will always be worth more than $1500 even if it needs a bunch of work.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Thanks for the info. I am feeling better about it all the time. |
