Eastwood Ac/Dc TIG 200

I want to buy a TIG welder for my son to have to develop his skills for welding. The above welder has AC TIG for aluminum as well as DC for stainless steel. It also can switch to stick and run 6010 rods. Cost is $720. It comes with a foot peddle and TIG torch and goes up to 200 amps. Duty cycle is 60% at 190 amps. I would use it for home projects. Has anyone used Eastwood and does this sound like a reasonable buy?  Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:Primeweld or AHP is a better option.I haven't used the Primeweld but George (mechanic416) on the forum sells them and he doesn't sell crap. The AHP has been around for awhile and is proven. All 3 are made in the same factory but the AHP and Primeweld get the best options and Eastwood gets the left overs. Reply:I have an AHP Tig Alpha 201 and Eastwood plasma Cutter.And so far I have had no problems with either. Primeweld seems to have vanished Can't find them on Amazon or Ebay.As far as service and parts. I could not say.Of course I use these at home. But I also had a made in the USA Plasma cutter that took a crap on me after 4 Hrs.of cutting time.So it is a shot in the dark with anything in Todays world.What ever you get,Work the hell out of it for the first Month.Because that is when things happen.

Reply:If stick is what you need watch Craigslist for a good AC/DC welder -- I've seen good units go for $250 or so.

Reply:Non of the 3 will run 6010 well at all. They are tig welders that will do stick/arc welding. Reply:Find A Used Precision Tig 275 If He Has To Do 6010 And Tig Aluminum Otherwise The Smaller Machines No Matter What They Say Are Not Going To Be Equal To A Commercial Welder Like A Xmt 304/350 or ivertec v350, just cause they run it doesn't mean they run it well and cause they say they won't run it doesn't mean they can't
Reply:I am trying to be cheap. The welder that would do all I want sounds like it is out my price range. Since it is practice only maybe  6011 in place of 6010 would be adequate. I saw the AHP TIG 200 AC/DC on Amazon for $720 plus $30 shipping and it looked pretty good. I am gonna ponder that one for awhile before my impulse buy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reply:Look for used, the lincoln ideal arc 250 can be had cheep I think they are ac/dc wouldn't be as convenient of a aluminum tig welder as the wiz bang new kid on the block tig welders but a real good stick welder that would be more realistic arc to something you would get on a job
Reply:I started out with the Eastwood TIG 200 AC/DC. I now have the AHP. The only reason I changed is because the AHP had more features such as adjustable frequency and pulser. If I'm not mistaken, the Eastwood has those features now. I loved the Eastwood unit, and put down some great welds with it. I only used TIG though, I don't stick. With both of those units, you'll want to upgrade the pedal (assuming they both still come with that goofy backwards pedal).
Reply:I have this welder, don’t think it will run 6010. I’m happy with it for TIG, would get something more stick-focused if I used stick more.
