I'm wanting to buy a smaller positioner for welding custom exhaust and intake piping etc. I'm n looking for some feedback on members experience. The MK Cobra looks awesome but it's $3000 price tag is on the high side. What have you used and what would you recommend to buy or stay away from? Thanks for any suggestions

Reply:Check out the line from Vevor. They range in price from $600 -$900 in CANADIAN dollarsMade in China and I have no idea of quality but it may be worth checking out.

I bought an ultrasonic cleaner and an electomagnetic lifting block from them and the quality ON THOSE 2 ITEMS were excellent and delivery was 3-4 days.Last edited by Lis2323; 16 Hours Ago at 11:24 AM.:

Found an even cheaper basic modelI wont provide the Canadian link. Best to Google it VEVOR products are also available from Amazon for a bit more money but perhaps worth it for their better customer service. Sent from my iPad using TapatalkLast edited by Lis2323; 13 Hours Ago at 02:21 PM.:

Reply:We've tried the Cobra MK 250 or 260 here a couple of times. It works, but it's needed to get rebuilt twice because something electrical inside of it died. Not sure if that was a problem with the machine or our wonky electrical systems but it was irritating either way.The clutch is nice, as is the jog feature, but otherwise I'm not a fan of it. I don't like how twitchy the control knob is to set really fine adjustments with and I absolutely hate how they handle going from vertical to horizontal or in between. If you have any weight at all on the turntable, even a full size 3-jaw chuck with nothing in it, you have to support the entire load with one arm while you try to work the locking pin out of the side. It's not "infinitely" adjustable either, so if you want a very small amount of angularity to clear the table with a weird shape you have to go up an entire step on the locking system. For small positioners I'm a big fan of the MBC BP-2/R2. We have both units and while they don't have the nice clutch lever or jog buttons they're way more mechanical and generally easier to use. It's just a motor with a potentiometer and a foot switch, one of them has been in production for almost a decade at this point and I don't remember it ever breaking. There's not much to break and if it did they appear to be your typical industrial DC motor. The MBCs are made in America, and I like the infinitely variable table tilt that doesn't make you carry the entire load to adjust tilt. Pretty sure they're way cheaper than the Cobra ones, I think a new BP-2 is like $1800 or something? The $1800 Cobra positioner will only carry 30lbs and has a baby table on it. Ultimately I think it depends on how much you plan to use the positioner, the Cobra ones would be nice if you want variable foot pedals or you have to spend a lot of time jogging the part to tack it or something but the MBC ones just work so heavy production they're quite a bit more robust.
Reply:I like the idea, following to see what you getRetired Old GuyHobart 210Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 Evolution 14 Saw
Reply:I had 60 to 1 gear box and variable speed drill motor with a cooler 12" pulley. I would make fixture out of scrap just the job. After job remove all good parts and scrap the scrap metal ready for next time. Dave
