Root Rake.

Finally back at it. If I had to weld one more hand rail or garden chair.......Man this root rake was in dire need of repair. To bad I only had half a day to get it done. It was snapped in half in 2 places on the top and a few cracks.In one of the pic's you can see the grinder being hauled of. I got the root rake  done just in time for it to get hauled off to the jobsite. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Not really in all the years I've been repairing heavy equipment I've never had a failure yet. That's 3/4" AR 400 and with a 400º preheat they never fail. After I weld one side I gouge weld the other side. They have 9 of these rakes and every new crack is in a new spot. Now I did put a 4" x 5' x 1/2" AR across the front to help clamp it back into a sorta straight line and welded it 100%.I don't even (fish plate?) plate cracked/broke booms and never a failure yet and those 25 - 30 ton excavators put a lot of stress on anything I do to them.
Reply:We built one out of mild steel angle iron years ago... 70 hp tractor bent it on the first rock... Didn't know what AR 400 was.
