Hey guys, very new welder here! I’m struggling to get my flux fillet sizes right and I feel like an idiot because I just don’t know how. When a blueprint calls for a certain size fillet like 5,7 or 12mm for instance, how to I control the size? Is this by heat or wfs? Travel speed?I’m also struggling to keep the fillet a consistent size, likely my new welder hands and not being comfortable enough… any tips on that would be amazing as well! I can’t seem to find any information when I look it up and maybe I’m wording it wrong. I don’t want to measure my weld, I have a fillet gauge for that… I want to be able to create a fillet of a certain size and know what I’m doing so the outcome is the right size every time. Right? Why can’t I figure this out 🤦🏻*♀️ Go easy on me pls lol
Reply:Please post a photo of drawing and specs. Dave

Reply:Part of it is the wire size, part of it is travel speed, part of it is gun angle.Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:If you wanted a stringer bead ( kinda thin and tall) you would be using a drag technique with very little side to side weave.  If you want a wider bead you'll be weaving as you drag it, if you want a wider and taller bead you might be doing a circle manipulation.  Depending on the size or the wire will give a certain size bead.   If you new, id practice laying beads until you feel comfortable with bead manipulation.   Post some pictures. We've done so much, for so long, with so little. Were now qualified to do anything with nothing !
Reply:To define toe width(top and bottom), do a bit of a weave as you drag the gun.  Stop your motion where you want the toe to end.If you're having trouble with bead profile, look at the puddle from slightly behind it, as you progress.  This allows you to get exactly the bead shape you want.  It's harder to see bead height, and shape, if you're looking at the puddle at a 90* angle to the puddle, or looking at it ahead of the arc.Try a slower wire feed to begin with.  See if this makes for a nice narrow bead...................increase wire speed, and weave, if you're needing a wider bead from toe to toe.If the bead is unnaturally high, and ropy..........turn the volts up.  Then fine tune the wire speed to match what you're wanting.
