I own an OmniPro 220 and have an opportunity to acquire some wire that belonged to a gentlemen who has passed away, but I don't want to take it if it's not something I could use on the OmniPro or on jobs I do here on the farm to repair equipment, make fixtures/gates or repair skid steer buckets. There is several rolls of Lincoln ED016098, which is a .045 solid core wire, and the OmniPro lists .045 flux core, but not solid core. There is a roll of PREP-EZ .030 wire that has a torn tag. What I can read is:  Heat Number ?4-20816-A2 that says it was made in the USA at Eagle Wire Co. Inc in Kentucky.ER70S-6The last is a roll of Made in the USA Eagle Wire ER70S-7 in .030It seems to have been well stored and kept.To give you a quick background - I am familiar with the following wire in the OmniProLincoln ED028676 .035 wire and it ran really good for me - but pricy. I seemed to do the best with it for whatever reason. Vulcan ER706S-6 and it did ok when I ran about 17 lbs repairing a skid steer bucket. It did not run as easy as the Lincoln, but the job turned out solid.I picked up a 2 lb roll of Holbert from Tractor Supply in a pinch one day, but not sure what it was now. I could run it again, it seemed fine.I have some YesWelder ER70S-6 I was told to try, but haven't ran it yet.Might as well ask too - what is recommended for rockers and cab corners as I am about to fix up the truck. Thanks all for you help.... Greatly AppreciatedSteve
Reply:I look number ED016098 it came back  E71T-11 witch is fluxcore wire. What are you welded?Dave

Reply:I will be welding mostly mild steel to repair various things that break on the farmThis is what I found on weldingsupply.comSuperArc L-50 .045 33Lb SP (old# ED016098)          ED032925AWS: ER70S-3 The Eagle wire ER70S-7 in .030 looks to be something like this:Mild steel welding wire that contains high levels of manganese and siliconProduces high quality weld when used on dirty, oily. or rusty steelHigh silicon content increases the fluidity of the weld pool, creating a smoother bead appearance resulting in minimal post-weld grindingEngineered to provide porosity free, x-ray quality welds at the highest tensile strength of all the plain carbon wiresRequires a shielding gas of CO2 and/or CO2 mix** This appears like it should work on the farm using C25 gas and the OmniPro should run it easyStill not so sure about the Lincoln wire if it is a .045 wire and the new Lincoln number is ED032925
Reply:If you are welding outside fluxcore is better.  The shielding gas outside blows away. The E70S is flat and vertical welding.Great for production welding of non important welds. You may want to look at E71T-11 or E71T-GS this all positions and can be used outside too.Dave

Reply:Is it copper coated, if so its probably solid wire, wire should bend tightly and not break. Is the wire a silver color , if so bend the wire in a tight bend a couple of times, if its flux core it should break. How do you have a EDOXXXXXX number but no AWS number ? Even if its .045" gas shielded you should be able to use it. I've used both gas shielded, and gasless .045" wire on my Lincoln 210mp and they both worked fine. Its pretty much all that it can handle , but for 3/16"-1/4" steel its worked fine for me.good luckAirco 250 ac/dc Heliwelder Square waveMiller Synchrowave 180 sdMiller Econo Twin HFLincoln 210 MPDayton 225 ac/dcVictor torchesSnap-On YA-212Lotos Cut60DPrimeweld 225 ac/dcPrimeweld mig180Miller AEAD-200
Reply:Thanks All - She said $40 for all, so I grabbed it. When I restore worn out buckets - I run a lot of wire. I normally plasma cut all of the old worn steel off and then cut new plates, so yea - it takes a heap of wire, so hopefully it will work on these types of repairs. I agree Dave - The E71T-11 or E71T-GS seems best for repairs where I craw inside a piece of equipment (like a round baler) and make repairs. I don't recall running any of it, so I'll have to get a roll to try.  I do have a small 110v flux core welder to get me going out in the field if I need to make a quick repair.
