need advice on a new welder aluminum tig and mig. also maybe repair of a 140C

i killed a 140C tonight, accidently plugged it into 220V.  its probably the transformer so... if i bought a 220V transformer could this welder run higher amperage welds?next, i need a welder for 1/2 mild steel and aluminum for maybe 3/8 or so.   can anyone recommend something for maybe between 500-1000? something used perhaps i should watch out for?just a hobby maker in my garage but i still would like better than chicago electric
