Hi folks thanks for bringing me onboard. Want to apologize right off the get go,Im most likely going to be annoying as I really know very little. Own a Lincoln mig 140/110 volt and a Lincoln 225 ac buzz box. Was doing auto body but now need to build a fence around my pool great government resending grandfather clause. So what I would like to know is can I mig the fence. The spindles will be 1/2 square rod and the frame will be 1 square tubing 16 gauge . Have great ideas but need help and info to get started oh and will be adding some decorative pieces and twisted pickets already built picket twister. Thanks Johns59
Reply:Welcome. You can Mig weld the pickets. You only need to basically "tack" weld the pickets to the 16g frame. I would take one sacrificial Picket and cut short sections of the 16g sq tube frame and practice. You'll need more heat directed at the solid 1/2", then wash over to the tube. You'll probably have a few burn throughs on the tubing.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:You can do fine with MIG. I use prepunched channel for handrails. See https://www.tsdistributors.com/store...d-Channel.aspxFind a local supplier for it. You can get 4” spacing for straight runs. If you have steps, use 5” space channel. Turn the channel toward middle of rail then cap the top with molded handrail cap or channel. Reply or private message me for more info. I use 1/2” square solid for pickets.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com

Reply:Welcome! Chlorine is supposed to get crazy expensive. Search out trouble free pool, there you will find helpful information and you can substitute regular bleach for the chlorine tabs, it's a little more trouble, but no biggie. We have a salt pool & have been waiting for about a year for the price of a new salt chlorine generator to come down to a price I felt was affordable.NRA LIFE MEMBERUNITWELD 175 AMP 3 IN1 DCMIDSTATES 300 AMP AC MACHINELET'S GO BRANDON!"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. Reply:For twisted steel bars or tubs I used pipe thread and lathe both work good. Starting out I would recommend 14 gauge or better 12 gauge. It is easier than thinner tubing for beginners. I have been welding for 57 years I used welding and iron work to pay for college back in the 1970's Just about all steel work. Dave
