Hi everyone, can you please help me with some advice. I wanted to weld something on my rocker cover/valve coverlid did sand blasting and prepare surface for welding, but something weird happened when I start warming material with torch.Do you have any idea whats going on? I tried with AlSi and ALmg5

On the top of the edge looks like that is ok,but I'm wondering that is rest of the part when I actually start welding will make same issue. What I'm doing wrong?Thank you everyone,Djordje

Reply:Sand blasting shots contaminates deep into the pores of the base metal. Mainly what you see is those contaminates cooking back out. Generally if that's at the surface that's good. You could grind the area a bit to look for inclusions and add more weld on the top if the base looks clean. A lot of times oil soaked parts look like that.
Reply:This is a casting. Some areas of the casting are just crap. If you have a dremel or little sander, dig into is and weld over until clean. Nothing I have not run into myself.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR"
