Hello,I ran a couple of welds today on 1/4" steel with a Lincoln AC/DC 225/125. 6010 rods on DC+. The top weld was ran first on 105. The bottom weld was ran immediately after on 115. Any advice or comments? I have ran about 30 rods so far, so I could appreciate the advice!

Reply:You could use more heat,  however as weld on the same plate your heat need will change. What is your position. Looks like the weld is long and you are having issues adjusting/reaching. If you cannot complete the weld, with one rod and too much reach required, then stop and reset your position.  The bottom looks like you sped up travel.  The bottom was preheated and you increased amps, so you were seeing something? Looks pretty good to me.Last edited by tapwelder; 10 Hours Ago at 05:17 PM.
Reply:I know the stack of dimes look is cool but I think you are moving too fast. Try moving forward only about half as far with each step. When you are beginning, practice is the name of the game, so try running a few beads moving slow and smooth instead of the whipping/stepping method. Try moving as slow as possible and see if you can burn through. Then you will know what that looks like. Once you know what too fast looks like and too slow looks like you can fine tune your method for the middle of the road.  This method also works for all other variables you will encounter... bead width, arc length, amperage, rod size vs material thickness etc.Lincolin Power Wave 450, Lincoln Powermig 255, Lincoln Pro Mig 140, Lincoln Squarewave Tig 275, Miller Big 40 G(with Hobart Hefty suitcase), Thermal Arc 95S and Esab PCM875 in an already full machine shop.
Reply:You got the idea.

Reply:As said, you should work on slowing down and getting more consistency in your motion, and don't step out so far. I.E, stack the dimes closer together. I think you could actually use slightly less heat, based on the BBs I see. I hardly ever run 6010/6011 over 100 amps, but that's just me. You probably are also long arcing it a bit. Try to hold a tighter arc.Miller Multimatic 255
