Hi. I have been lurking on the forum for a while but wasn't a member until today. I have an issue that I hope someone has some insight on. I recently purchased a used Miller S22 P12 wire feeder/suitcase. I am running it off of a Miller Trailblazer 250g. The feeder takes the 14 pin Amp connection from the Trailblazer to utilize 24V. When I got everything out at my shop, I wanted to test to make sure everything was operational with the feeder. So I hooked up the 14 pin connection to the trailblazer, put a spool of wire on, and fired up the trailblazer. I pulled the trigger and I could hear the gas solenoid click which was great... I also had the drive roll motor turn on and work well also. So I fed wire thru the drive rolls and into the liner of the gun. All was going well. I'm guessing I had the wire almost thru to the gun when I let off the trigger just to make sure that I had taken off the contact tip, which I had. When I went to feed more wire, the drive roll motor wouldn't engage. I hit the jog button on the front of the feeder and it didn't engage the drive roll motor either. I double checked that I didn't have any settings wrong on the trailblazer side as far as the remote amperage and contactor switches, but I believe they are correct. I also unhooked the 14 pin connection and with the Trailblazer running I am getting 24 volts from pins A and G. I still get the gas solenoid to function properly when I pull the trigger or use the purge button on the front of the machine. I have opened up the feeder and looked at the board, verified continuity on a bunch of connections including both sided of the 24v source wires. All seems ok. Also, to verify that the drive motor itself wasn't bad, I traced the wires from it and disconnected its connections and used a 12V battery to jump power to the motor. The motor functions perfectly. To add some info, the trailblazer outputs 24VAC. The gas solenoid operated on 24VAC but the drive roll motor operates on 24VDC. I believe the board turns the incoming AC voltage into DC before going to the motor. This is about as far as I have gotten. All things are pointing to a bad board, but I would like to get any info on any more checks I can do before I confirm that the board is bad. Or any help on checking components on the board that can be replaced. Thank you for your time.
Reply:I forgot to mention that I checked the circuit breaker and fuse as well. They are good from what I can tell.
Reply:Have you checked the trigger switch and wiring for it?. How are your strain relief connections at the feeder and at the welder end of the cable? Pretty common for those to be twisted up making momentary contact. Kind of the nature of the beast with suitcase feeders as the wiring gets subjected to a lot of stress.
Reply:I will confirm that the trigger switch is operational, but when the trigger on the gun is pulled, it does actuate the gas solenoid. The gas solenoid also works when I press the purge button. When I pull the gun trigger or press the Jog button on the front of the feeder, I do not get any function from the drive motor. You mention the strain relief connections... What I did to verify this, to the best of my ability anyways, was measure continuity from the pin on the connector, to the wire it corresponded to going into the terminal block in the feeder housing. I am all ears as to anything else to check. I didn't mention in my original post that I have the Trailblazer set to CV, I have the remote contactor switch on and the Amps/Volts set to panel. Is there any way the remote contactor switch can be bad?
Reply:I just checked and confirmed that the gun switch is functioning properly. I also checked that I have 24V incoming to the feeder at the terminal block.
