Napa 83-305

I've spend several hours scouring the internet trying to find information on this machine. It was my late grandfathers, As the title indicates its a Napa branded, 230v- 295Amp AC Arc Welder. I'll add a photo to this thread in a few minutes; I don't have one on my computer to attach. But I'm hopeful some of you gentlemen could assist.Cheers,Stephen

Reply:What do you want to know about it?  I had one like it branded as a MILES. I still have one of the plugs for it if you want it.  I think you could put a lead on it but you need two of them.Mine came with some red LINCOLN 6010 and I will probly be flamed for this but it ran 6010 on the 80 amp tap. I only had low and hi taps but the 80 amp had higher OCV than any of the other taps that seemed to burn the red LINCOLN rod.

Reply:Mine was 180 amps like the MARQUETTE jpump5 showed. Intersting that the NAPA version is 290 amps. Theres not much to it and should be easy to trouble shoot if you have a VOM.Is the fan turning on? Are you sure its getting 240 volts. Its easy to tell the wiring to plug as the ground sticks out further than the two hots. I would check connections at the plug as they may be loose. If you have a VOM check continuity of the power cord. You have to open it up to check power cord. With a VOM also check OCV between low/medium/hi to all the numbered taps. Hope that helps. Let us know what you find.
Reply:Have you taken the covet off, schematic may be inside?  Does it make any noise when on?  Though i had a 295 amp 21st century that did not have a fan or fan had been removed.
