1966 Idealarc 250 plug replacement

Hi, I’m very inexperienced in electrical work and welding. I recently picked up an old 1966 idealarc 250 that appears to be in good condition despite its age. The only fault I could find was a smashed power plug. I was wondering what kind I should replace it with? Machines input calls for 230v-70 amps but all I can find is a 50amp 3 prong plug.
Reply:the 50 amp 250 3 prong will be fine w/ a #6 cord , cuz  u wont be pulling 70 amp continuously, if at all

Reply:Easy install with most of the 6-50P plug ends. Most open up clam shell style and wire go straight up inti the set screw lugs. You will have no trouble. You will never even get that plug warm. Reply:Its worth a note,,, that this will work fine but I might be tempted to see if it ran from a 50.  Only reason is youy have tailored an outlet for this machine at 70A,,, its a 50 outlet and not for general use with other factory 50 cord and plug machines.www.urkafarms.com

Reply:I am not as familiar with the details to the exact models as might be for a Miller but they are similar.  A couple of the 250 feeders have a minor difference but not exactly sure about the Ideal/Dials.    Not saying I havnt done it other ways or even that I wouldnt but if I wanted a code legal install that would pass forensic would use a flex tube, AC type whip with 3 number 8, one of them green to a Jbox or panelboard with a 70.  Should add,,, or to other means of disconnect if the breaker wasnt local.Last edited by Sberry; 2 Days Ago at 08:37 PM.www.urkafarms.com
