HiI am welding a Move bumper kit which is 5 main pieces out of 3/8 metal. I was having trouble welding it using my mig welder with 0.035 wire. Mig is new to me. A friend came over and suggested we switch to 7018 stick which worked very well except as I’m grinding the welds down I see small pink pin pricks.Probably don’t need to deal with them since I’m going to bedline the bumper but if I want to fix them  would I just use my mig welder and just spot weld them? Thanks for helping a newbie. Reply:I'm not sure what a "move bumper" is, but if it needs to be strong.   Id recommend practicing until you can lay beads with no pin pricks. It seemed like a good idea at the time!

Reply:If you have pin holes in weld the best way is to grind off the old weld and re-weld. Dave

Reply:If the welds are sound enough, brushable automotive seam sealer would fill in pits.
Reply:Learn to weld properly???? just putting it out there...

If it were me, I would 7018 the INSIDE joints.....    then make a nice mig bead on the outside. If you are dealing with pin holes with mig, you probably didn't clean the material or/and have a gas problem. welcome to the wolf pack.

Reply:This is hindsight but you should have practiced on scrap iron until your welds look good. BTW what welder are you using for stick welding and what one for mig?Ol' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:I would try to cover with lo hy but you should have watched. Your rod must be damp. Either put a heat lamp on it for a few minutes or just plunge it into the weld and stick it. Then  count to 10 and break it off and go to welding. Old indian trick. Also welding another pass of wire over stick welding will also cause pinholes. Good luck.
Reply:Is it 1 or 2 small pinholes or a bunch of porosity?
Reply:One is to many. Dave

Reply:Like I said my first real project. Perhaps with a bit more grinding these spots will flatten out.
